Vehicle Detail
Here is my TR-6. I purchased it in 2007 on Ebay. I have REALLY enjoyed owning this car! I have had several over the years. It is by no means a show car. It could be made to be one though with a little work. This car is in reasonable shape for its age. Since I have owned it I have performed some safety upgrades and regular maintenance. I installed a standard relay system for the headlights, taking the full load from the switch. There have been some early TR-6s catch fire from old wiring and dodgy switches (and all the load going through the switch). It includes the owners manual and a great colorized schematic. I will demonstrate the technique for lowering the roof safely to the new owner. This car is not a Miata. It asks its owner for attention at regular intervals! OK the ubiquitous Good/Bad lists: Good: Engine runs strong, Transmission shifts smoothly, Handles great with rear sway bar, Excellent maintenance records in hand go with the car, Tires are OK, newer windshield seal professionally installed, spin-on oil filter adapter, does not overheat (late TR-6 fan), respectable sounding cassette stereo with aux line in, tonneau cover for when the top is down, a small cache of spare parts go with the car, all of the electrics work, it has a Pertronix points replacement system in it, I installed many many missing parts that were not present when I purchased it, all receipts included. Bad: It needs a clutch slave cylinder, easy to get and not too difficult to install (but it is unlikely you would want to drive this very far without repair, but it is possible...), there is minor surface rust in some places on the car (I will include a color-matched can of paint), the rear window zipper of the top has failed (it is watertight otherwise and I have a perspex sheet in there holding it in place when the top is up for now), there is minor wear on the seats and carpet (some small tears), there is a minor leak in the left axle outlet of the differential (I topped it off every other year, a minor annoyance to me, but a replacement seal comes with the car), there are minor scratches and dings and wear here and there on the car (nothing abnormal for a car of this type and age IMHO). Of Note: The car had a professional frame repair done to it before I purchased it. I have inspected this regularly on a lift over the years and it seems to be doing well. If it bothers you, replacement frames are available. This car has the improved hood release mechanism to prevent the terrible designed cable system from stranding you with the hood down. (I will demonstrate this to the new buyer). Basically, this car is a good TR-6 to do a restoration on. It is basically solid and has proven reliable to me while I have owned it. Because of the clutch cylinder issue I would strongly suggest a trailer for pickup. It could be driven but it would be hard on the starter and transmission. I do not want to mis-represent this car in any way, so I strongly urge you to come and look at the car before bidding. It is sold as-is where-is. No warrany. No returns. I will not ship this car. You must come to Dunmore, WV to get it. I am about 1 hour from Elkins, WV (US33), 1 hour from White Sulphur Springs, WV (I-64), and about 1.5 hours from Staunton, VA (I-64 and I-81) Here is a video I shot going to work in it: You Tube Video In the video you can see that I had non-standard gauges in the car. The factory originals are back in it now. If you are interested in the others I will sell them to the new owner for $1000 cash in hand at pickup. $2000 deposit via PayPal within 24 hours of auction close. Remainder due in cash at time of pickup. If optional gauge set desired add $1000 to the final cash payment due at time of pickup. The car must be removed by 1DEC12. No exceptions. I will post some more pictures tomorrow. Good Luck! On Nov-20-12 at 16:04:11 PST, seller added the following information: I apologize for the delay in posting more pictures. I will get them up by the evening of the 21st. I apologize for any difficulty this may be causing. On Nov-21-12 at 12:40:19 PST, seller added the following information: Ok, new pics up. I am showing the optional gauges in place, the stockers are in great shape and all work. The optional large ones are from an XKE and re-calibrated. I am showing the bubbly areas as well. I do not want someone thinking this thing is mint. Hard to get good pictures of a shiny thing! I took out the spare (lug-wrench and jack included) and it is not holding air. I believe it is the factory original... I am not certain though. Pic of the stereo. I forgot I added a 12volt outlet under the dash to plug in a GPS or phone charger. I can take this out in about 3 minutes if it bothers you. I dug out the top cover and it was mouse eaten in one place I included a pic.It needs a good vacuuming in these pics, which I will do once I am back from Thanksgiving. I will be back late on Thursday and if any locals would like to see it on Friday, just give me a call at home on Friday after 7am. My number is three-oh-four four-five-six five-two-oh-five. Jerry. On Nov-23-12 at 03:33:06 PST, seller added the following information: I heartily apologize but I am delayed in returning to WV. I will be back at home around noon. I am sorry for any problems this may cause.
