Vehicle Detail
1968 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS SI purchased this car about 2 years ago from a 1 owner family in Queens, NYC (1 family owned from 1968-2010). Since the purchase I cleaned it, changed the oil, put a water pump in it.... that's about it. I cruise it from time to time and wherever I go people always make a comment about how cool it looks. The cool thing about this car is that it has never been apart and the engine, tranny, rear, glass, bumpers, etc.. are all original to this car. The odometer reads 68k miles but it is 168k miles. The gentleman I bought it from was very meticulous and organized. He also gave me a list of items he has replaced over time with the corresponding mileage (plugs, wires, etc..). When you put it in reverse.. both reverse lights come on..any car guy knows this is rare thing. As things needed replacing the previous owner replaced them. He did not let things go too long being broken. Engine: 350 4 barrel (carb was replaced overtime, I have the orig 4 barrel carb), Car is factory AC, everything works but it needs to be charged. I recently replaced the water pump. HEI distributor was put on by the previous owner some years ago(I have the original coil, etc....). Engine never been apart and it runs great! Previous owner stated that he put dual exhaust on it a long time ago and has since always replaced it with dual exhaust. Exhaust is in good condition. He was very meticulous and he said that the car would breathe and run better. Tranny: This car has the jet away 2 speed transmission. The previous owner had it rebuilt at some point. Not much to say about the tranny. Everything works fine... I don't know too much about the jet away transmissions....Automatic floor console and shift. Interior: The interior is in great condition. Bucket seats. GLove box works and center console compartment works with working light. The carpet was changed over the years. Otherwise the interior is in great shape. Even the light works around the floor console to illuminate the gear indicator. Nice wood grain steering wheel (has stress marks and cracks in it). Dash board also has a crack in it on the drivers side. Headliner could use a replacement (previous owner gave me a new one in box). The greatest thing about the interior is that it is all there...every screw, handle, etc...... Seats are in great shape and all levers work when folding seats , etc... Car has rear defrost option and it works perfect. Body: Car is green and it shines up real nice. The body is not perfect. It is has some bubbling in places. The car has never been re-painted all at one time. As things needed to be done he would have it fixed. For example... years ago he had the rear quarters fixed cause they had small rust near the bottoms. New metal patches were put in. The patches only go up about 2 inches from the bottom lip. This is visible from looking inside the trunk. Except for this small area at the bottom, the rest of the 1/4 panels are original and straight. Any Olds guy knows this is rare...especially for a 1968 or 1969. Drivers side 1/4 at the bottom has a scratch (see pix). Other areas on the car have been touched up over the years. Some panels were painted at different times and by different body shops so there is a slight color difference at angles. I have to stress that this is not a show car. However I have taken it to many cruise nights, etc... and people come up and talk about how original it looks, etc... The top was replaced as well some years ago, the previous owner told me when the other top came off it was stripped down and a rust protectant was put on it and then the new top was put on. No issues with the roof,no tears, etc... looks new. The bumpers are straight. They are original to the car so obviously they don't shine like they used to but they are ORIGINAL. The previous owner also gave me 2 misc boxes of parts. I have really never gone through them but I know there is a headliner, some extra chrome pieces, and some other stuff. That will all go with the car. He really knew the ins and outs of this car and he truly cared about it. He is an old school car guy. You can cruise it the way it is or re-do the car, either way it is a blast to cruise. This auction will run out. There is no buy it now price. On Nov-16-12 at 04:46:38 PST, seller added the following information: ***UPDATE**: I have attempted to contact the bidder who bid $9,000 and $10,000, bids 15 &16. He only has one feed back and has not returned by emails. He increased the bidding by jumping up to $9,000 and then to $10,000. I am not sure why he did this. I will try to get an explanation. Anyway, to be fair to all bidders, if there isn't a good reason I will try to cancel his bid or I will be forced to put the car back up again. Sorry for the inconvenience. ANy questions send me an email. On Nov-16-12 at 14:31:42 PST, seller added the following information: **UPDATE** I spoke with the high bidder and through conversation he is verified as the high bidder. The auction will run its course. Thanks for all the interest.
