Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a RARE original 1958 Chevrolet Apache 3100, Task Force series, half ton, short bed, step-side pickup truck with optional Trademaster V8 283 engine. A few years ago, I began looking for a nice older original V8 half ton Chevrolet truck to restore. My thought was to purchase something reasonable that I could drive home and restore over time. I found mostly cheap trucks that were in very poor condition or very expensive trucks that had been fully restored, majorly modified and outrageously overpriced. I am sadly selling this truck with a Low Reserve to pay down some overdue debt. This is a SOLID truck that is easily restored. The Apache was purchased from a farm in Kentucky and had a minor restoration probably in the late 1970’s or early 1980’s. The dark blue paint is not original. This Apache appears to have been originally Turquoise and White which is an extremely desirable two-tone color, which can be seen on the interior photos. · The truck has minor dents and rust in the typical areas; cab corners, fender tips and bottom of the doors, easily repaired with patch panels. · The passenger window has a bb crack but the rest of the glass is good. · The Trademaster V8 283 engine runs strong with little smoke. · The transmission is 3 on the tree and shifts easily with new clutch. · The carburetor is OK but should be rebuilt and manual choke installed. · This Apache has the original rear farm bumper, which is hard to find but easily replaced if you choose. · This Apache was used on a farm and shows 08,137 miles. However, the title reflects the mileage as 81086 “exceeds”? · This Apache has had regular oil changes, the coolant flushed and a frontend alignment in the last year. I have replaced the following; · Brake lines, brake cylinders and pads · Water pump · Shocks · King pins · Motor mounts · Clutch · Muffler and exhaust pipe · Battery · Temporary pressure treated bed I have spent well over a $1,000.00 acquiring many of the harder to find parts, manuals, etc and will include everything with the catalogs to purchase any remaining items. EXTRA PARTS YOU WILL RECEIVE: · Additional 1958 hood – minor rust · Additional headlight bezels · Additional Radiator support bracket · Additional set of rims · Additional steering wheel – excellent condition · Original oil bath air filter · Original spare tire mounting bracket for step-side · Original stereo speaker which mounts between visors · Original rear and side view mirrors · Original radio delete cover plate · New door window weather-strips · New door gasket kits · New front fender cab seals · New gas tank gasket seal · New gas tank mounting pads · New transmission cover gasket set · New steering column clamp gasket · New inner fender seals · New hood to cowl seal · New interior handle gasket set · New headliner retaining gasket · New engine gasket kit · New gas lid x2 (1 Original and 1 Locking) · New oil filter x2 · New fuel filter · New thermostat · New expansion plug kit · New muffler heat shield DOCUMENTATION YOU WILL RECEIVE: · Original Owners manual x2 · Reproduction sales brochure for 1958 Apache · Original 1958 Chevrolet Shop Manual x2 (1 for Home and 1 for Garage) · Original 1955-1959 Chevrolet Factory Assembly Manual · Miscellaneous Chevrolet truck information and parts catalogs · How to restore your Chevrolet pickup truck book · How to rebuild your small block Chevy engine book MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS YOU WILL RECEIVE: · Danbury Mint 1958 Chevrolet Apache Die cast, Task Force series, half ton, short bed, step-side, Turquoise pickup truck – New in box · Original Black and White 1958 Virginia Truck License Plates · 1958 Chevrolet Apache, Task Force series, half ton, short bed, step-side, Turquoise pickup truck magnet for refrigerator From a collector standpoint, the most important difference in Chevrolet’s 1958 truck models is the extensive styling revision. The new grille extends across the entire front of the truck and enclosed the parking lights. The large grille bar on the bottom carried the Chevrolet name. The front fenders were redesigned to house the dual headlights, which caused the headlight opening to be enlarged. A slight crease stamped along the top of the fender crest picked up the driving line from the headlight housing. The new hood had a drop-center design, created by stamping deep ridges in both sides of the hood panel. At the rear, the dropped center rose to bring the hood even with the cowl. The hood emblems and series-designation plates were also redesigned adding series numbers and name assigned to the duty rating. For example, “Apache” signified the light-duty truck designation. The front bumper contour is also slightly different than those used on the previous trucks of this series. This Apache is SOLID and in its original condition/configuration which was appealing to me. Rather than overpaying for a restored truck or one that has been majorly modified you can pick this one up at a fraction of the cost and drive it home. I will work with the buyer to ship if necessary at buyer’s expense. Thank you and have a great day! On Nov-15-12 at 08:19:56 PST, seller added the following information: Thanks for your interest and questions – There is a lot of interest in this truck (Almost 200 watchers/bidders) and I have received numerous questions regarding condition and parts. Hopefully, I can answer all your questions here. Yesterday, I drove this Apache to a local gas station about 10 miles away to have it checked out. I will now do my best to answer your questions. I have had the truck for approximately 2 years. The truck is in good shape considering its 54 years old. Electrical: The temperature gauge, amp gauge, oil pressure gauge, sending unit and fuel gauge, speedometer, odometer, headlights high/low, left right signals, brake lights, heater and defroster all work as designed. However, the dome light, radio, one headlight, back up light and windshield wipers is not working. The interior handles are all intact and work as designed. As far as the engine, I have only changed the oil, water pump and hoses. As far as the transmission, I had a new clutch installed and it shifts very smooth. The automotive mechanic looked at the truck and stated the original 4 barrel carburetor needed to be cleaned or rebuilt, which could be part of the reason for the light smoke. The grill, light rings, and bumpers on this truck were all originally painted. The original chrome hood and Apache emblems are in good shape with minor pitting. There are small rust holes in the top of each fender and by the light bezels which you can see in the pictures but the inside steps, floor, inner fenders are all solid. The frame is also solid and in good condition. I am married with two small children so I only drove the truck locally on weekends. However, it could easily be a daily driver. The fuel tank is in its original location behind the front seat. Personally, I purchased this truck to keep it looking original and make the changes I wanted rather than accepting someone else vision of a classic Chevy truck. I would not make this truck into a Ratrod. Finding a truck in its original configuration that is in good shape is getting much harder. There are a ton of good Ratrod trucks that have already been majorly modified that you can purchase cheaper. I have received a lot of questions about how far the truck will travel. The truck is being sold as is and I simply don’t know. I personally drove it approximately 20 miles yesterday at speeds up to 65mph and had no problems. However, keep in mind that this truck is 54 years old and is original. I am a cautious person by nature. My major concern is safety. The truck has no seat belts with manual brakes and steering. It travels well and I would trust it for a few hundred miles but not to Texas, Florida or California. These trucks look great but were not made for comfort. This Apache would make a very cool daily driver or a weekend cruiser but it is simply not something you are going to take on vacation and drive a 1,000 miles. In addition, I have received a lot of questions regarding selling the new and hard to find parts on the list that are advertised with the truck. I simply cannot sell them because they go with the truck. However, I will pass your information on to the purchaser. I want you to bid with confidence and be completely informed so keep asking questions. I really hate to sell this truck especially after driving it again yesterday. However, I do need to catch up on some debt which is the only reason I set the low reserve. Personally, I believe the truck and parts are worth much more but that is for you to decide. I want you to be happy with the purchase of this Apache so, if you are the highest bidder and arrive to get the truck and feel it has been misrepresented then you can walk away, minus the Paypal deposit which will cover the ebay costs of advertising, etc. I simply want to sell the Apache to someone who will appreciate it and enjoy it as much as I have. Hopefully, I have answered all your questions. Thanks and have a great day.
