Vehicle Detail
1990, Honda Pacific Coast PC800 I have owned this bike since 2004 and it has been stored indoors when not ridden. Prior to my ownership, it did not run and was left outdoors all the time. At one point it was Red. That was a very long time ago. The finish I would describe at this point as poor. It has a patina of red and basecoat silver. It IS scratched scuffed and has some cracks here and there. Cosmetic condition:You will notice in the pictures that one chunk of the fairing is missing on the rider’s right side approximately below and in front of where your knee would be while riding. One day it just disappeared while riding. I presume it was cracked prior to that and eventually the crack became a break. It affects the use of the bike not at all. It also really did not impact the aesthetics at all either considering the overall condition of the bike. I must say though that the bike looks MUCH better in the pictures than in real life. she is not a pretty girl but is hearty and will serve you well. The windscreen was opaque and frosted from the day I bought it. I am tall enough that I see over it when I ride so it was never important to me. Last month, I bought a headlight restoration kit to fix the oxidized headlights on my car. I was so impressed with what it accomplished with relatively low effort that I tried it on the PC800 windscreen. Wow! I can actually see through it now. I did all the major exposed areas and it looks great! If I were to keep this bike, I’d remove the screen and do the whole thing front and back. It would be a 30 minute job (not counting time to remove the screen). Mechanical Condition:The tires have about 50% tread left. Brakes are about the same. The bike ran like a top the last time I used it. The last trip I took was from Houston,TX to Tulsa, OK a couple years back in 2010. Then it sat in the garage only getting ridden fro grocery runs and such every few weeks, until about 6 months ago when it got neglected. I replaced the battery but I could not get it to do more than just idle. So I took the carbs out, disassembled them, and ran them in the ultra sonic cleaner. The crud that thing got out was significant. It took some time but I reset the idle screws to Honda spec, synced the carbs and they are spot on, and set the float heights to 7.5mm on each carb as specified. I rode it around the block and everything is working as well as it ever has now. If the bike were registered I might ride it more. I have 2 other bikes though so this one really needs a new owner. This was a CA model Pacific Coast but at some point the CA emissions canister was removed. I have never had it or the PCV valves that went with it. that might be why it chirps at low rpm on closed throttle decel. Just a guess. The vacuum hoses are configured as they would be for a 49-state model at present with the 2 additional lines for the PCVs plugged off. All the electrical works correctly. It has a pigtail for electric vest or for battery maintainer. It has heated hand grips installed. Works fine on high and low. Was more useful in CA than in TX. Battery is about 6 months old and has been maintained. This Bike had the OEM AM/FM accessory radio from Honda when I bought it. I removed it and the left handlebar controller and sold them at that time. I replaced the dash speaker panel with the regular piece. That is why that piece of plastic is 15 years newer than all the other bits. The wiring for the rider and passenger headsets is still installed, though iIt does not connect to anything. Accessories:Rear spoiler (makes a great handle for opening the trunk)Heated-Grips (Hi/Low, on/off switch on left handlebar cover)Trunk MatsTrunk Spring (allows the trunk to “pop” open when the release in the fuel filler is pulled)“Bead-Rider” seat cover Service life:When I originally got the bike I used it for commuting. It had a slight backfile at idle when I finally got it running in 2004 and dissipated as it got more use. On closed throttle decelleration it chirps mildly at at a 2500 rpm or less. Which brings up point #2: the tach works when it feels like it. Fix it or live with it, your choice. The move the bike is used, the more likely it is to work. I have put about 20k on it since then. It has always leaked a bit of oil from the front valve cover gasket. It has never been significant enough to motivate me to tear in and repair it. It might leak half a quart in 10 years. Never left a spot on the floor but makes the engine (which you generally cannot see) a bit messier. I moved to TX from CA in April of 2007. I have not ridden this bike much since then because the TX weather is life threatening hot most of the year. In 2009 I had the Honda dealer clean the carbs as it had sat idle too long and would not do more than idle (cost $700). Fixed it, rode a little to Louisiana and Oklahoma then it sat. The next time, I worked on the carbs myself (to save $700). I was initially unsuccessful and unmotivated to continue. So I made one attempt to sell it. The interest suggested that if I were to offer a bike a new owner could just hop on and ride home, I would be more successful. I have done that and now I am re-listing it. Summary:This is an decent bike that is imminently rideable right now! It is low maintenance and works properly as long as you don’t let it sit for a year. The bikes exhaust chirps a bit as noted above. If that is a concern, I can record it and send it to you. The bike has always done this and my half hearted attempts to correct it never succeded so I lived with it. This bike needs nothing if you don’t mind the ugly. It has been gone through and is ready to ride. It even has a beaded seat cover which aids air circulation in life threatening heat for improved comfort. As the weather cools the value of the heated grips will assert themselves. Registration:The bike registration expired in Mar, 2012. It is not currently registered. It has a clear Texas title, which I will sign over. I you need it in legally rideable condition, I can get the inspection done and renew the registration for an additional $50. That would be in addition to your winning bid. Pick up:It is on you to arrange pickup or come get it. If you like the above option to pickup the bike with it all registered and ready to ride, I live 20 minutes from Bush Intercontinental airport. I am willing to pick you up and you can ride the bike home. You would need to take me up on the $50 registration requirement noted above though. If you need more than 2 weeks to come and get it, please email me BEFORE you BID to discuss. On Nov-06-12 at 20:44:16 PST, seller added the following information:I just posted a YouTube video this evening so you can hear it run.
