SEE MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE VINTAGE CAR PARTS AND ACCESSORIES Further cleanout of surplus vintage parts and cars: No reserve. BARN FIND!!! BARN FIND!!! BARN FIND !!!!!!! (Thought I would jump on the "Barn Find" bandwagon). I found it in my barn - almost forgot I had it. (The first few photos show the car after pulling it out of storage last week - it originally was put in storage after spraying the entire car with Cosmoline, a sticky tar/wax like commercial preservative that attracts a lot of dust/dirt). This is an authentic original 1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite. It has no title and is being sold as such with a bill of sale only. I bought it and two other Bugeyes from a gentleman in Georgia about 30 years ago and put them in storage. This is the only one I have left. He was going to do some racing with it and put in a late 1965 - 66 1098 engine and ribbed case transmission. I have no idea what was done to the engine for racing - perhaps nothing - I have no clue. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate goes with the car. FEATURES: The Heritage Certificate certifys the car as being a 1960 Austin Healey Sprite Mark 1. Car chassis number AN5L37196 - (original serial plate attached to the car confirms this). Engine number 9CUH36765 (has been replaced by a larger improved design 1965 - 1966 2 inch main bearing 1098 engine with serial number 10CCDH5498). Body number BAE36787. LHD, North American Export, original color is Cherry red with red interior. Built April 11, 1960. Sent to Mobile Alabama on May 4, 1960. Original equipment was sliding sidescreens, tonneau cover, heater, front bumper, windscreen washer - all of which are no longer there. Also included laminated windscreen, rev counter, red and white flashers. ENGINE: Original engine has been removed and replaced with a late 65 - 66 1098CC 2 inch main bearing motor - serial number 10CCDH5498. I have a non matching number 950 engine if the buyer wants one of those - very cheap. The 1098 engine rotates freely by hand or with the starter. It was a runner when stored about 30 years ago. It looks very good from the outside. Can't see anything that is missing on the motor. The SU carburetors look excellent (just covered with Cosmoline - the entire engine compartment has been protected with Cosmoline). Carbs show no wear or damage and look to be nice and tight with no damage. Nice and original. Air cleaners are missing - if I find any before auction ends they will be included. The mechanical fuel pump was removed years ago and has a block off plate on the engine block. There is a period correct heavy duty racing electric fuel pump mounted near the carbs in it's place. I have not started the motor and don't intend to - just don't have the time and have other cars to prep for sale. TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH: Original smooth case transmission was removed and replaced with a 65 - 66 ribbed case transmission to match up to the 1098 engine. It shifts solidly and easily through all of the gears. Driveshaft and rear axle assembly are intact. ELECTRICAL: Starter, starter relay, generator, windshield wiper motor are intact. Original wiring harness is partly there - The dash and gauges have a new wiring harness tucked up underneath the dash. Car would pretty much need total rewiring. DASH AND INTERIOR: Actually pretty decent. Previous owner put in a nice looking recovered new dash with updated gauges for his racing career. (!) Have no idea if any of the gauges would work. The oil pressure/water gauge obviously will not work. All of the original switches/controls seem to be there. The red leather seats are from a Triumph TR4 just sitting unbolted to the floor - they go with the car. BRAKES: Brakes are all there but do not work. Have not spent any time on them. Don't like brake work. EXHAUST: Mostly all there but probably not worth messing with. COOLING: Original radiator looks pretty nice with no obvious damage. All hoses will of course need replacing. MISSING: Heater, side curtains, tonneau cover, windshield washer bottle, handbrake handle, steering wheel. A Triumph steering wheel is in place temporarily to help move the car around but will not go with the car. Handbrake handle is not there, top bows, hubcaps, front bumper, headlight trim rings. BODY/CHASSIS: Years ago when storing these cars I covered most of the corrosive prone parts and surfaces for rust/corrosion protection with a sticky wax like substance called Cosmoline. The first few photos of the car are just as it was removed from storage a few days ago - with all the brown/black Cosmoline on it. Quite an ugly picture but the Cosmoline is an effective protective coating that comes off fairly easy with mineral spirits. The other photos show the car -also just a few days ago with the cosmoline removed and the car semi cleaned up for better visability. I consider it to be in rough condition but it has good potential for many uses. Hot rod, custom, original restoration, parts car, etc, etc. The hood actually fits pretty decent but the left hand hinge is bent and can be hammered back in place. The previous owner knew little to nothing about body/metal prep. He used welding, bondo and silicone in places that makes no sense. New front floor sheet metal was welded, then siliconed in. Spring boxes look to be either welded or siliconed in places - maybe just one of them - hard to see what he did. Floors underneath the seats up to the spring boxes have thick 1/8" plate reinforcing steel welded in. I see no reason for it, other than the fact that he may have wanted something stronger than stosk for racing. He did a lot of overkill with Bondo. Small 1/8 inch areas have 4 inches of Bondo smeared over them. Bondo like this is pretty much all over but there was no reason to use it in most of the places it was put. The rear deck was smeared with a thick coating of glazing which has for the most part all flaked off by now as shown in the photos. Gas tank is no good. Right door had bondo and fiberglass on the very bottom in spots. Left door looks pretty good. Bonnet has some minor rust in the front corners right on the bottom - not bad at all. I have an extra bonnet if anyone wants one cheap - about the same condition as this one - maybe a bit better. I am being real critical of the body because I hate body work - but it really isn't too bad especially if you are talented in body work. MISCELLANEOUS: Tires: Junk but hold air for loading on to a trailer. Original Goodyear Bluestreak on left front - still junk. PAPERWORK: No title or registration. Sold with a bill of sale only. SHIPPING: You can pick the car up at my home within 30 days or I can arrange transport for you or assist you in arranging transport. I have sold and shipped cars all over the globe. A $500 NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT VIA PAYPAL IS REQUIRED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE AUCTION CLOSES. THE BALANCE IS DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS VIA PRIORITY MAIL WITH A BANK CASHIERS CHECK OR BY WIRE TRANSFER. NO PAYPAL. As always, it is difficult to describe something as complicated as a vehicle - so I would highly suggest you look at it in person or have a 3rd party do it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. I have purchased and sold roughly 20 autos through ebay over the past 15 years and also over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my homework and suggest you do the same. I describe things as honestly as humanly possible. NO PAYPAL. I combine shipping and charge actual postage cost only. THE POSTAGE LISTED IN THE AUCTION IS ONLY A GUESS AND MAY NOT BE CORRECT. YOU WILL BE SENT AN INVOICE WITH THE CORRECT POSTAGE AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS AFTER I PACK AND WEIGH YOUR PURCHASE. If you pay for the auction before I send the correct invoice it may delay shipping. I usually send the invoice out the morning after the auction ends. At times there may be a small handling/packing charge if it is a difficult item. (large, heavy, etc). I ship immediately following receipt of payment. Everything is described in detail to the best of my ability with good photos and it is the responsibility of the bidder to determine reasonable values commensurate with condition. After selling some of the highest quality and hardest to find car parts on ebay for over 15 years I have retired and am winding down and selling off the last of my vintage parts. Most of them have been in the garage for 50 years or more and their "condition", even though the part might be new old stock does not necessarily mean that it looks like it was made yesterday. Keep in mind that there may be some (and may not) minor flaws (surface rust, nicks, etc) simply from age and many years of storage.
