Vehicle Detail
1976 COSWORTH VEGA SURVIVOR RARE 1 of 1446 PRODUCED Near mint 1976 Chevrolet Cosworth Vega Survivor with only 26,500 original miles. All original matching numbers engine, trans and rear. Perfect, like new interior. The body is straight with NO RUST EVER. The original lacquer paint has some micro checking which is very typical for 36 year old lacquer paint, but otherwise the paint is in great condition. Car starts right up and runs strong with NO smoke or other mechanical issues. She is loaded with options including a 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive, 4.10 posi-traction rear, tinted glass, am-fm radio, full instrumentation, swing-out rear windows, rear speaker, auxiliary lighting package and lots more. I have the original build sheet, owner's manuals, service manuals, brochures and lots of other paperwork that goes with this awesome machine documenting that this car is the real deal. In 1976, these specially prepared Cosworth Vega Supercars cost as much as a brand new Corvette. In fact, you could buy 2 standard Vegas for the price of 1 Cosworth and have change for a happy meal. Chevrolet partnered with the famed Formula 1 engine developer Cosworth and produced these amazing limited production machines. The Cosworth Vega “Import Killer” owes its existence to John DeLorean, who had formerly been the general manager of GM's Pontiac Division and later engineered and produced the futuristic Delorean Gullwing. Cosworth Vega's were the very first american built cars with dual overhead camshafts, multi port electronic fuel injection and stainless steel headers. My reserve is very low considering the high quality and collectability of this rare and unique factory racer. You will not be disappointed. Please look at my feedback and you will see that my previous auction descriptions are accurate with no BS. I have had many happy customers and some still keep in touch with me today. Shipping is the responsibility of the new owner, but I will do anything I can on this end to ensure a smooth delivery. As with most cars of this vintage, I am offering this Cosworth Vega in “as-is” condition. You may come and inspect the car anytime prior to the end of the auction and I encourage serious buyers to do so. Once the auction has ended and the reserve met, the high bidder will be contractually obligated to purchase the car. Becoming the high bidder is not an invitation to inspect the car after the auction is over and deciding then if you want it or not. Sorry that I need to make this point, but there are way too many tire kickers out there. Please contact me is you have any questions. Thanks! On Oct-19-12 at 06:11:56 PDT, seller added the following information: To answer a few more questions: Each Cosworth Vega is individually numbered with a gold dash plaque. This Cosworth is No. 2881. The first 2061 were built in 1975, and the remaining 1446 were built in 1976. Clutch, tires, brakes and shocks are new. I believe you can drive this car across the country with no problems. What makes the 1976 more desireable in my opinion; the front orange blinker lights are hidden behind the grill giving it a more sinister look, and the rear tail lights are larger and fit better with the hatchback body lines. Also, you could only get the 5-speed transmission as an option in 1976. I heard that fewer than 400 were produced with this option. The tall 5th gear really helps out when cruisen at highway speeds. Please note that the car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.
