Vehicle Detail

You are looking at a 1965 Chevrolet El Camino This well-turned out classic car is a real head turner with simple, but effective appointments, starting with a stunning black cherry metallic paint job on a very straight car. The fit and finish on the car is excellent with the paint being applied less than six months ago. Being a Florida based car, the word rust does not come into this description. Top or bottom, the amount of rust is very tiny. The car is equipped with a rebuilt 350 Chevy engine topped with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and large chrome air cleaner. Rev the engine and the sound is crisp and responsive. The engine features 40 over pistons with stock style rods. The block is the 350 version from 1970. There are steel stamped chrome valve covers in addition to several other nice shiny bits such as chrome breathers, billet upper pulley and more. The Lunati cam is slightly bumpy (I have the factory cam information card) and sounds great through dual exhaust and glasspack mufflers that end in front of the rear end with turn down tips. The engine is coupled to a wonderful 700R four-speed automatic transmission. Power steering and power brakes add to the ease of driving this classic and the factory in dash air works just fine blowing very cold air. The interior is very nice with mostly medium gray tweed coverings. The door panels are custom and feature the popular Chevy bow tie emblems in raised form. The front bench seat is from a late model Buick and is very comfortable. The steering column is also from a late model Buick. There is one speaker on the floor behind the passenger seat that needs to be mounted somewhere…or not. See pics. Most of the chrome on the car is very good, straight with some of it, such as the bed rail moldings were all recently replaced. The worst piece of chrome on the car is the rear bumper. It is relatively straight, but there are a few dimples and rust on the rear right corner. I researched this bumper and a new one is $160 delivered within the Continental United States. The floor of the bed is in great shape with absolutely no rust and finished off with a black liquid bed liner. Even the wheel well tubs are nearly perfect. The tires are brand new Coopers with less than 20 miles on them mounted on classic chrome Cragar S/S wheels with chrome lug nuts. Looking underneath the car will further illustrate this car coming from Florida. The frame rails are clean, straight and rust free as are the body mounts and cross members. The rear end ratio is a friendly gas-sipping 3:08 ratio. With the four-speed 700R transmission, the combo produces a good gas mileage combo. Also concerning the back of the car are a pair of Gabriel Air Shocks to adjust the height and ride of the car. There is also a very nice chrome powder coated sway bar…see pics. What does this car need to be a top-notch looker, driver and possible weekend show car? --- The tonneau cover is tired. You could either have an interior guy sew the edging back on or replace it with a new one. The chrome snaps are already in place and the nice flat fiberglass support bows are included. Tonneau covers for this model vary from $200 - $300. --- The sheet metal below the rear window is a popular item rusted out on these 60’s models. This one was very well replaced, but while removing the rear window, the installer did not re-install the headliner at the window nor return the interior trim to where it belongs around the inside of the rear window. Not an expensive repair…had estimates of $50 - $75. --- While all of the gauges work correctly, (including the in-dash mounted tachometer) the steering wheel horn button, the radio and the interior light do not work. The radio lights up, station numbers change, but can’t seem to get any stations on the radio, nor hear any sound. Yet another inexpensive repair. Radios are less than $100 worst case scenario, but I’m thinking speakers are disconnected. The light and the horn are more than likely a fuse or broken bulb situation. --- A few very small, I mean less than dime size areas need to be addressed to perfect paint job. There is about a quart of paint included with the car, left over from the gallon used. --- I have the lower rocker panel chrome covers, but have not installed them. It would take a few 1/8” holes to be drilled and screw them on, but I like the clean look and also can’t bring myself to drill holes in such perfect sides. Your call and choice to do so or not. The cars starts and runs great, ready to run down the highways of America. I was going to finish this car off with many of the items listed above, but decided to sell it as is and have the next lucky person to own this car make the final decisions that I might not select. Such as….what kind or type of sound system, what color of tonneau cover or style (or not), install the rocker panels or not, etc. I also contemplated putting SS stripes on the hood, but couldn’t decide on what size, style or color. What I like, the next owner might not. Overall, this is a very nice car with minimal repairs and improvements to finish the car off. If you are looking for a comfortable, good looking straight car that will get up and go, sounds great and won’t break the bank account to finish it off…this ride is for you. Questions?
