Purchased in 1988 this was the one car that I always wanted after seeing one in Europe when I was 12. Driven to several Lotus Owners Gatherings and was centerpiece sharing the limelight with the 1993 Lotus Esprit at LOG13 in Grattan, MI. Overall has proven to be a reliable exotic. When items did need replacing, they were done so to improve reliability and to lower long-term ownership stress. Wonderful on long-distance trips where it has yielded up to 38 mpg and at driving schools with the Audi or Lotus clubs for Michigan at Grattan, MI. With the past three years, the engine was overhauled completely by AutoEurope in Birmingham MI. For most of my ownership, AutoEurope has been the caretaker or project manager when it came to having the car repainted in the 90's (paint still looks good). AutoEurope also reconfigured the shift linkage so it now shifts like a modern 5-speed, the wheel bearings and supports were replaced with aircraft grade parts, Lotus problematic wheels were replaced with Panasports, dash was replaced about 6-years ago. Blaupunkt FM/AM/CD with removable faceplate and smaller steering wheel to make ingress/egress easier. Battery new. Oil changed with filter this Spring. New windshield with upgraded surround, and, new carpets. Receipts are available to review which total over $40,000 performed by AutoEurope and PHP Engineering. Lowered reserve since original listing. If I was to keep the car, I would probably update the interior - the new purchaser can do this to their liking. It does have the usual British leaks and occasional Lucas issues, though none impede performance on the road. Going to the Great Lakes Lotus driving event at Grattan in Michigan in October if the Lotus does not sell, some of the pictures are from previous events at this track. Lotus is a blast to drive and outperforms many newer cars around the negative camber turns and tight twisties, see Subaru's line versus Europa on the negative camber corner. There are two or three other Europa of this vintage listed by dealers, both are asking between $27,000 and $30,000, and in the UK these now regularly trade in the $22 - $35,000 range. Sport Car Market recently upgraded the Europa to "B" grade investment and several publications have listed them as sleepers for positive gains. The car is sold "AS IS, WHERE IS".
