Vehicle Detail

Up for reserve auction is my triple black 1971 Pontiac GTO coupe. The paint and interior are all new last year. The car was stripped to bare metal, blocked prepped and painted in two part urethane. All bright trim was replaced or polished. New legendary interior trim and door panels were installed. The dash pad was professionally recovered somewhere along the line and looks very nice. The car runs and drives very well and has been used as weekend only cruiser and local car show participant. I have only put a few thousand miles on the car since purchased in 1989. When purchased, it had new brakes (disc front/drum rear), front suspension rebuild and new rear quarters installed. The car was originally a 400 4-speed car. Along the way it was converted to a Turbo 400 automatic with a Hughes GM25 torque convertor (2500rpm stall) including changing out to the correct automatic brake pedal. The 4 speed tunnel "hump" was retained and a new B&M Starshifter (4 speed look w. dual gate detent/ratchet operation) was just installed a few weeks ago.The motor is a 1973 YC 455 block. It was align-honed, bored .040" over and fitted with Speedpro forged pistons, '73 super duty forged rods, Mellings 54DS oil pump, Milodon pan and pickup, balanced, one piece pan seal and Best graphite rear main seal. 6x-8 heads (9.5:1 compression) were installed w.. new 2.11/1.77 valves. Machining included surfacing, port match, bowl-hog and light porting, bronze guide liners, viton seals, Crane 99838 springs and retainers and a Crane HIT 284281 FT hydraulic cam (RAIV) and lifters were installed. . A Holley Street Dominator single plane intake with a Holley 770 Street Avenger carb top off the motor. The exhaust is Flow-Tech 4 tube headers and all new 2-1/2" duals with Thrush welded mufflers and stainless repro tips. A Holley red electric fuel pump is installed and the ignition is a GM HEI with an MSD controller. The motor has only a few hundred miles on it and as mentioned, the resto on the car is only a year old. I personally built the motor and optimized all selected parts to make a reliable and strong running combination. It starts easilty and idles with a very noticable and authoritative lope. I have driven the car in 100 degree heat and never exceeded 190 degrees at idle. It is a pleasure to drive and will idle in traffic all day long but is capable of 12 second quarter miles when you put your foot in it. Bid with confidence that this is a gorgeous example of a 1971 Pontiac GTO and a turn-key car, ready to drive. With the exception of the factory AM/FM radio (for show), everything on the car works including lighting, wipers, cigarette lighter, etc. No leaks, no issues ... just a gorgeous, bad-ass black GTO. On Oct-01-12 at 16:04:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Since reserve has been met. in the interest of full disclosure there are a few items I want to assress to perspective buyers, While the car is well respresnte by the photos, there a couple flaws. On he metal portion of the dashboard, two holes that were drilled by the former owner for a tachometer mount. One isBoth holes a 3/8" hole whihc has a plastic plug covering it. The scond hole is smaller and was drilled through the speaker grille. Both holes are readily repairable without removing the dash pad and painted satin black. The other item is some rough welds which show as bumps under the vinyl top on the edge of the driver side C pillar and a few more along the valance panel edge between the rear window and deck lid. The former owner did not grind the welds smooth and assumed the vinyl top fabric would cover the bumps. I intended to have the bottom edge of the top pulled up, the welds smoothed and primered and the top reglued but the body shop slipped up and I never got around to doing it. It is not a big deal, but I thought I should point it out. It is not rust as the bumps have been there as long as I have owned the car. I had the glass reset to install all the proper trim clips and all the channels and metal are clean and sound. Please provide your email address if you would like em to send pics of both areas.
