Vehicle Detail
Thanks for taking a look at my old Dodge Neon, affectionally named "Ole Red"! This is a great little car, and is the 5th Neon I've owned. It's a high-line coupe, with a SOHC 2 liter and 5-speed manual transmission. I purchased it this spring as an intra-state and work commuter, to keep from racking up the miles on my Challenger, when my father fell ill and I needed to visit him frequently. I needed something reliable and good on gas to drive from my home in Troy to southwest Missouri, and this little Neon has served me well. I have an upcoming new driver in the family, and am now looking for something a few years newer and with an automatic transmission for him to learn with. So, I no longer need Ole Red, which is why I'm selling it here. The car passed MO State safety inspection this spring, and I don't know of any reasons why it wouldn't pass again right now. It's still a daily driver, and I would trust it just as much across the country as in town. Because I need to sell it quickly, I'm starting the bidding low, and with a very reasonable reserve. When I purchased this car in March of this year, it appeared to have been kept by someone with no interest in modding it. It seems to have been fairly well maintained, but has taken a cosmetic beating over time, with various dents and dings. As I took ownership, I've kept modifications tasteful, and with a mind for performance and reliability. You're buying what amounts to a newer car now than what I bought this past spring. Flame Red clearcoat covers the aging and dented body. I've added an aluminum front airdam and fiberglass rear side skirts to increase aerodynamic efficiency. A paint-chipped OEM-style rear spoiler adorns the deck lid. Grey cloth interior, standard for the model, includes a split 60/40 fold-down rear seat to expand the already-adequate trunk into the passenger area for hauling big items. I replaced the base-model gauge cluster with one that includes a tachometer (swapped with original odometer to keep mileage true), and also added a CD player from a Dodge Durango. The center top dash panel was badly cracked, so I replaced it as well. Mechanical upgrades started with the drivetrain mounts. All three have been replaced with solid polyurethane ones. A new battery was installed later in the spring, as the temperature swings made it clear the old battery was on it's last leg. In the fuel system, the tank, pump, and injectors have all been replaced. In the ignition system, I put in new spark plugs, and later installed high-performance MSD plug wires and coil pack. Since the air filter is also a normal wear item, I replaced it with a K&N drop-in filter, which flows better than the stock filter, and is washable. Other performance items include aluminum radiator brackets. I also replaced the worn-out OEM shifter bushings with red Prothane pieces. That's more than one mod every thousand miles I've driven it. Performance is now 40mpg @ 55mph, and cruises at 70mph easily. Okay, enough wall-of-text. Here's the basics: Specs & Features: DRIVETRAIN SUSPENSION & BRAKES · 2.0L SOHC inline 4-cylinder, 9:1 comp. · brakes: front disk, rear drum, w/ cable parking brake · air: K&N drop-in filter (173,500), OEM 48mm throttle body · front suspension: OEM McPhereson struts / springs · fuel: Bosch 24# injectors (180,000), new pump and tank (173,000) · rear suspension: OEM McPhereson struts / springs · 5-speed manual transaxle w/ new poly shifter bushings (176,000) · wheels: 14" x 5.5" steel wheels w/ aero covers (OEM covers included) · cooling: OEM radiator, DMR Airdam, DMR Radiator Brackets · tires: 195/60R14 w/ full-size spare OTHER FEATURES & MODS · new battery (174,000) · DMR Polyurethane drivetrain mounts (173,000) · OEM Radio swapped with AM/FM/Cass./CD from 2000 Durango (174,000) · OEM gauge cluster swapped for cluster w/ 7k RPM tachometer · Split Folding Rear Seats · Center Console w/ Storage Compartment KNOWN ISSUES · various dents and dings · Air Conditioning present but doesn't work · driver's window hard to roll up · door locks somewhat difficult to operate · fuel gauge tends to read higher than actual · Of four speakers, pass. side door speaker works · headliner cloth was sagging and has been removed That's pretty much it. I like this car, and I hate to even sell it (especially with what I've put into it), but with a young teen that's going to be driving soon, I'd like him to be able to learn and test in an automatic first. Since I've bought this car, I've taken very good care of it, since as a racing parts company owner, I can't be seen on the side of the road broken down. Many of the parts I've added, like the alloy radiator brackets and motor mounts, are products of my own design. Good fortune, and happy bidding! I've done my best to describe this item, however I am human and, subsequently, imperfect. I'm sure to leave out some detail, but a picture is worth a thousand words. Read the descriptions. Look at the images. Think about what you're bidding on before you bid. If you have any questions, just ask- I'm just an email away. Keep in mind, this is a used vehicle, and I make no warranty, expressed or implied. Ten percent deposit to be made withn 72 hr. of auction close, and remainder to be payable on receipt of item in cash or bank check (no personal checks).
