Vehicle Detail
This is an a great opportunity to own a very clean and smooth running 1956 Ford Thunderbird. There have only been 2 previous owners and this thing has been babied. It has just barely over 20,100 actual miles. The car is very clean and straight. Everything is there. Even the jack is still in the truck. The car drives very nice, but even better is how well the motor runs and how smooth the transmission is. The drive train runs perfect. The car has been painted once in its lifetime. The paint is a little faded, but is still in decent shape. You can just drive this as is, or is perfect for a restoration if that is what you are looking for. The top is in good shape but is not showroom quality. The hardtop is missing somewhere in the past. We considered replacing it, but decided that we would sell it instead. The seats and door panels etc. were redone in all white by the previous owner. It's a very high quality job, but not original. It wouldn't take much for a good upholstery shop to fix. Don't miss out on a part of American History. This was the second production year for the sport Thunderbird. The continental kit was added to the rear and portholes in the detachable hardtop. The car also has a folding convertible top. The 312 cubic inch engine was an option over the standard 292 cubic inch V8. This car is equipped wîth Ford-o-matic transmission. There were a total of 15,651 Thunderbirds built this year. Ford referred to the T-Bird as a 'Personal Car' rather than a true sports car, to appeal to the upscale customer. For 1956, the porthole top, continental kit and a 12-volt electrical system were added. The Thunderbird was Ford's response to Chevrolet's Corvette. When the Thunderbird was introduced in 1955, it outsold the more expensive Corvette by 24 to 1. The name 'Thunderbird' was derived from the god of rain and prosperity worshipped by America's South West Indians. They were versatile vehicles with European style and American comfort and power. The 1956 was nearly identical to the 1955 version, with the addition of a rear mounted spare tire being the most obvious difference. The Continental kit was stylish and gave additional trunk space for cargo. Cowl vents on each fender side were also new for 1956. On Aug-21-12 at 13:57:19 PDT, seller added the following information:** I have had a few emails about the undercarriage, rocker panels, exhaust, gas tank, etc. The car does not have any rust that isn't just surface rust underneath. The exhaust is brand new, the tank is brand new, the shocks are new, and it's a very clean car. If you want pictures you will have to send me your email that I can send them to. I can't add anymore pictures. Thanks for looking.
