Vehicle Detail
Presenting this beautifully restored 1973 Volkswagen Camper Van She had spent her life in the Nevada Desert before coming to me. I am a very picky buyer; picking only the driest of what's available. I am having to go farther and farther to find one that fits my strict criteria. This one took me 6 months to find. She was the perfect candidate. When she was found, she was still sporting her original Cream White paint job. She had no evidence of any previous accidents other than a few small of dings and dents showing her age. She was still a daily driver; having the brake system properly maintained and a fresh set of shocks. Work invested: The first step was a complete strip down of the entire interior, Remove the 1700-cc engine. Remove the entire brake system. Strip all hardware from the outside. Any rust found was cut out and new metal welded in place. She was then sanded in several levels of grit to remove the original paint in preparation of a new coat of prime. Final sanding was taken to a smooth 600 before primer was applied. After several coats of Prime she had a final sand of 1000 making her smooth as a baby's bottom. Three coats of the highest quality paint applied in her original color of Cream White Inside and out. The base coat was then sanded with 1000. Time for the Clear! 5 Coats of clear was applied over a two day period, Then left to harden. The final stages were a sanding of 1000 and then a final sanding of 1500 making her shine! The last and final stage was several passes of heavy compound to bring out that real mirror shine! In all the paint took 17 days from start to finish. The pop top shell and luggage rack was removed and painted with three coats of Alpine white. The wheels were sandblasted, primed and painted with three coats of alpine white. The luggage rack tie downs and cross bars where freshened up with a new coat of Galvanize to prevent rust. The interior was taken to a local seamstress who uses a heavy stitch and thick vinyl-imitation leather that will last for many years. Nice smooth calming colors where used in the interior to induce a warm feel that one should have when enjoying time away from work with the family. It also has that new car smell as a result of the renovation. The cabinets were carefully gone through and the proper fasteners and glue were applied to make them as strong as the day they where manufactured. A real working 12 volt high efficiency fridge was installed in the place of the original ice box. A new Pop-top three window tent was installed. The Retro style metal painted dash was done in the same Cream White and several coats of clear where applied. Lights where installed to illuminate the entry way with a warm glow upon opening the front door. All the locks work smoothly from inside and out locking the bus completely except for the slider which locks from the inside only. The engine was completely disassembled. The case and heads were taken to a local machine shop to be reconditioned. The cylinders where honed and checked for clearances. The rods and crank were balanced. The Valves were inspected and reseated, New Rings, Main bearings and Cam bearing, lifters and Cam were installed. New gaskets applied. A new complete intake and Weiber Progressive carburetor system was installed. New fuel line from the Tank to the carb along with a new fuel pump was installed for the smoothest and safest fuel delivery. New cap Rotor Points were installed with 7mm hard core plug wires. She starts one crank Cold or Warm. She sits and purrrs without missing a beat! The Transmission shifts firmly into all gears. A new clutch was installed with a freshly turned flywheel and pressure plate to ensure smooth clutch operation. The Brake system was gone through with a new master cylinder. The shoes and pads were only through about one third of there life. She starts, runs drives and brakes very well. Thee entire electrical system was gone through to ensure all lights, turn signals, brake and hazard lights work. New light lenses were installed front and back. I take pride in every bus I create. I strive to create the perfect dream bus that anyone would be proud to own. Paying attention to the finest of details. She has been listed with a reserve $8000 less than buses of even inferior quality making her affordable to just about anyone. I wish you luck in your bidding. If you do not win this bus there will be another soon to come as I have once again begun my hunt throughout the south west deserts. Although the next bus may not be in the same as I only paint buses in their original color. I can, and will, ship her WORLD WIDE! I can have her delivered safely to the loading docks for a small fee.
