Vehicle Detail

1968 Volvo 122S "Amazon" 2-door Life changes are forcing the sale of my beloved 122S. I purchased it 2 years ago as a project car, it having been dormant for a decade or more, likely due to a hydraulic failure in the clutch system. It is believed to be a Texas car originally - they don't get much more rust free than this. The chassis is straight and the underside shows only expected surface rust. There's a sticker under the hood showing service on 11-23-78 at mileage 54260, leading me to believe the 93400 showing on the odometer is original. Paint is original and shows no evidence of body work or accident damage of any kind. MANY new parts and LOTS of mechanical service has already been performed: NEW tires all the way around, barely 6 weeks old, all of 4 miles on them so far - Kumho Solus 185-65/15NEW Clutch master & Slave cylinders, new hydraulic flex lineNEW Clutch, Pressure Plate, Throwout bearing, and pilot bearingNEW Center driveline shaft support bearing and rubber support bushingNEW front brakes with new pads, IPD braided stainless steel flex lines, calipers professionally rebuilt by RPR, NEW rear engine sealNEW water pumpNEW fuel pumpNEW distributor cap/rotor/condenser/points/plugs/plug wires NEW batteryNEW radiator core (not patched, but completely replaced) by Centennial Radiator, Fall '11 NEW valve cover seal and head gasketNEW jets on both carburetorsNEW rubber parts all over - trunk seal, door window scraper seals, rear blinker seals, hood bumpers all around (aligns hood with fenders and prevents hood rattling), front and rear hood seals, and gas filler sealAdditional work includes: Both carburetors rebuilt using genuine SU parts (not thinner/less resilliant aftermarket substitutions).Head freshly rebuilt by Wells Racing Engines to replace valve seats with Unleaded-friendly hardened seats. Valves checked, cleaned, and new stem seals installedFuel tank freshly cleaned and resealed by Centennial Radiator in June '12 Fresh transmission lubricant change Recent valve adjustment June '12Original AM Radio rebuilt with new capacitorsNew rear brake shoes, brake cylinders, stainless flex line, and new windshield gasket are included but not yet installed. Two early-style grilles included and directly swappable. Interior is original and not yet addressed. 1968 was the first year for the factory headrests standard as well as the lower dash knee pad (present and in great condition). The dash pad however is a bit of a mess due to a previous owner attempting to cover the Texas sun-baked dash pad. Removing a poorly installed layer of glued-down vinyl actually improved the looks. The Texas heat was also unkind to the original rubber floor mat, disintegrating it in the rear and cracking it a bit in the front. Seats have a split in the driver's seat side (shown in pictures). Has rear speaker option and dash-mounted fader control (not sure if it was factory or dealer installed). Trunk is completely rust-free and has a new trunk seal to make sure it stays that way. There are a few minor spots of rust to be aware of on the body, in some unusual places. There's a quarter-sized hole on the driver's side fender just below the a-pillar (shown in photo), plus a quarter-sized hole above each blinker (clogged body drains?). There's an inch-long surface rust spot below the passenger rear window. The rear reflector housings below the blinker are also rusted (shown in photo). The doors are rust free and once the drains were opened back up showed no signs of rust beyond a light surface coating. Now for the legal mumbo-jumbo: No international bidders please. Buyer is responsible for all transportation arrangements and costs from Dallas, TX. All funds due in cash or certified cashier's check within 7 calendar days of auction close. No warranty express nor implied is provided (come on, it's 45 years old!). Thanks for looking and happy bidding! On Aug-02-12 at 21:52:17 PDT, seller added the following information: Additional: Due to a number of questions I should add if it wasn't already clear - yes, this car does run and drive. Engine starts quickly without needing the choke activated and idles very smoothly. I've had it on city streets locally but not yet on highways/freeways [it's not yet been properly tagged/licensed since the engine was put back together so I've been careful to stay under the radar]
