1968 Mercury Cougar GT hardtop coupe, 390-4v 4brrl 325hp engine, C-6 merc-o-matic transmission, 3.00.1 gears, cardinal red with parchement(white) seats & headliner with red appointments. This Cougar is quite rare with all of it's original #'s matching options/features: GT equipment group with a 390 6.5 4-v holley 4barrel rated at 390hp and over 400(tq)lb-ft, heavy duty suspension & brakes, C-6 merc-o-matic transmission, Optional 3:00:1 gear ratio, Center console, Power steering, Power Disc brakes, Tilt-away steering & Whisperaire Air Conditioning. This is a project car, I purchased it with the intentions of restoring the car back to it's glory, I already have a '67 cougar so I don't have the time to work on both cougar's. The previous owner purchased the car in 1984, drove it for less than a year and then parked/stored the car up until this year. That's almost 28 years. Before 1984 I have no history. I've invested the time to get the engine running and the car put back together. I believe the cougar has 99.9% of it's parts. The mileage is unknown, I was told around 99k? The vehicle starts, runs, shifts, YARD drives & stops. The body lines are very straight, little to no body filler. The hood has rust, fenders are almost mint with a 50cent piece rust hole on the passenger fender, doors are mint and rust free, rocker panels are mint and rust free, quarter panels are straight & clean with minor rust behind and in front of the rear wheels & passenger quarter has rust no rot mid way up in front of the wheel, drip rails are mint, roof is mint & rust free, around all the glass is near mint with only minor surface rust on the back drivers side window, trunk lid is clean on top but has minor rust underneath the lip, all of the door jams & trunk jams are mint, trunk pan/floor is MINT & rust free, frame rails front to back are MINT & rust free, floors are original and mostly rust free with the exception of a fist size rust hole under the drivers floor pan, the torque boxes have rust but are not gone, firewall I believe is rust free, upper cowl panel is rust free but the previous owner cut the sides to drain water/debri, inner fenders are mint, fender aprons & towers are almost mint with the exception of rust holes on top of the aprons. Rocker moldings are complete and dent/rust free but could be polished, fender trim rings are dented but complete. Tires hold air but are not matching and front tires have significant weather cracking, rear are perfect. The air conditioning is complete with all switches, vents, compressor, lines, tags & smog pump, Power steering is complete but I think one of the lines leak. Engine runs good but could use a tune up or rebuild, depends on what you want to do, brakes are complete and work but could be bled. Tilt-away steering is complete, original column and steering wheel are complete and work, steering wheel is cracked like most are. Center console is complete and in good condition but could be cleaned up/painted. Seats are complete with only the driver seat ripped, Carpet is clean, headliner has one small hole but complete and in good condition, Door panels have speaker holes cut out??? Dash is mint and rust free but the cover is warped, an Xr-7 dash w/A/C vents is in place, gauges are not hooked up but all wiring is there. The only paperwork I have is a deluxe marti-report, Mustangs Unlimited parts catalog, the original owner's manual with the original owners info from COLORADO, some rigistration papers from '84, wiring diagram papers...I will be more then accommodating to answer questions, take additional photos, and/or help loading the vehicle on a trailer, ONCE full payment is made. On Jul-10-12 at 10:23:20 PDT, seller added the following information: HERE IS A LINK TO MORE PHOTOS THAT WHERE REQUESTED, MOST OF THE PICTURES SHOW JUST HOW SOLID THE CAR IS, SOME ARE OBVIOUSLY SHOWING THE RUST IN THE TORQUE BOXES AND FLOOR PAN. THE PASSENGER SIDE QUARTER PANEL BEHIND THE WHEEL IS BASICALLY RUST FREE, BUT THE DRIVER SIDE QUARTER BEHIND THE REAR WHEEL IS RUSTED AT THE VERY BOTTOM BUT BOTH DRIP RAILS ARE 100% RUST FREE. THE PICTURES SHOWING THE TOP OF THE FENDER APRONS ARE SHOWING THE MINIMAL AMOUNT OF RUST, THE PICTURE OF THE RADIATOR SHOWS THAT IT IS THE ORIGINAL FOMOCO RADIATOR. I believe this is part of the GT equipment package; chrome valve covers, chrome air breather top, stiffer springs, shocks, heavy duty sway bar, power disc brakes, power steering, 390 4v 4brrl engine, c6 tranny... I have included a picture of the air breather top. On Jul-12-12 at 10:07:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I have had alot of interest in this car as I expected and quite a bit of questions, to answer a few; the primer is covering only scratches and paint chips, my father went alittle crazy with the spray can, the trunk has absolutely NO RUST, what looks like rust around the fuel tank is grease, all panels apear to be original, the hood was replaced at some point from a blue car, the underside lip is rusted but the rest of the hood is in very good condition, the rear luggage rack is in very good condition and apear to have been installed professionally along time ago, maybe at the dealership, the tilt-away steering wheel does work exactly like it should, you can tilt up and down and when you open the door, the wheel tilts up and away and when you shut the door, you just pull the steering wheel back in to place. I believe all the parts/wiring that go to the taillights are there including the sequential box. My father managed to get the headlights hooked up so they go up and down but could use some tweeking.
