Vehicle Detail
Here is an extremely nice example of a 1988 Mercedes Benz 560 SL convertible V8 roadster. The 1988 and 1989 560 SL cars, the last 2 years of the run that started in 1972 for the 107 series body, are considered by collectors as one of the most sought after cars, as it retains the earlier "Pagoda" look while incorporating some of the newer technology features such as 5.6 L V8, air bag and safety restraint system (SRS), fuel injection, anti-skid brakes, limited slip differential, and other mature technologies. This car is from San Diego originally, going from a Doctors car to his son then neighbor, then to my friend to her brother, then to me. No rust. Always well maintained, garaged. I spent 2 years looking at these cars before choosing this one i felt was an exceptional example. This particilar car also has several notable upgrades: The European large square 2 headlamps replace the USA 4 headlamp system (much cleaner updated look, compare to other cars listed to see for yourself) as well as the AMG style mahaogony steering wheel w/airbag, mahogony shifter, and stainless steel dual tipped exhaust. The car sounds really nice. This represents approx. $8,000 in upgrades to this car. A bit about me, I'm a former race car designer and engine builder who has worked for DeLorean, Penske, McLaren and even Chevrolet in Advance Product design and Testing. I've been on several World Championship teams on and off road and off shore and know what it takes to go through a vehicle and make it right, week after week. I'm a second generation car buff who really loves cars. I take care of my vehicles and keep them to a much higher standard than almost anyone else. A majority of the work I do to my cars is pro-active, I do not wait for them to break. If a car squeeks, I find out why and get it fixed. Please NOTE: Only original Mercedes benz parts have been used and all work has been performed by the local Mercedes dealership or one of the top Mercedes shops in the USA, Prestige Mercedes in Florida, that specializes in this type of car. Serious buyers may speak to my mechanic regarding the work performed and his opinion of the vehicle. Serious buyers may call me (Mark) at 586-776-8383 for more info. Over the last two winters I took the car to Prestige Mercedes and had them go through the car with instructions to be pro-active, make it like new, anything not performing fix or replace. Some things worked, just not as well as they could. When I have a car, I fine tune it without regard to cost, as I planned to keep this car for the next 30 years. A Divorce has changed my plans. Car is priced for quick sale The air conditioning system has been entirely updated, with a new compressor, condensor, drier, hi & low pressure hoses, evaporators, climate control unit, vacuum controls and is running the latest R134 Freon. ($5,000) The radiator, clutch fan & expansion tank have been replaced. ($1,000) The SRS brain, ABS brain, cruise control and climate controls were all replaced. ($ 3,750) The engine mounts, trans mounts, body mounts, exhaust hangers, all belts and hoses (all rubber) were replaced. The original clock was sent out and rebuilt, the power mast antenna was replaced, and the underhood sound deadening pad was replaced, etc. I had the timing chain & tensioners replaced, all the brakes and rotors, control arm bushings, tie rod ends, steering dampner, wheel bearings, and replaced the new Yokahama tires at the advice of my mechanic, who said the rubber compound was too hard and was affecting the ride, so we put a new set of the correct Michilin tires on it. I had the car repainted last winter in the rare original Mercedes Benz Sea Foam green with original MB 2 part paint. We removed the trim, all the door, window, boot and convertible rubber seals, and the windshield, and installed new Mercedes factory parts afterwords. Much more work and expense$$ than most would do, but the nicer quality job was worth it. Convertible original canvas top in great shape and windows clear. The majority of this work has been done in the last 2 years, and has only a few thousand miles on it since. So here's what I would consider when looking at these cars and comparing to others on ebay and elsewhere. 1) This car has $8k of real nice options 2) this car has been thoroughly gone through by specialists who work on this type of car, and all work has already been done regardless of expense. 3) if you were to purchase a "time capsule" car, let's say a low mileage estate sale where car has been parked for 20 years, THAT car will need $10,000 worth of work before it would be reliable. I've done it, don't kid yourself that just because a car has 40,000 miles on it that the plastic timing chain tensioners that are now 24 years old won't snap and cause a $8,000 engine job as you are driving your new beauty home the first time. This car just had a new chain & tensioners installed, plus all the other preventative work required. This car rates as a "High Retail Value" car by the NADA guide definitions as shown here, as all the maintenance known for this type of car has already been performed, everything works as it should. Low Retail Value This vehicle would be in mechanically functional condition, needing only minor reconditioning. The exterior paint, trim, and interior would show normal wear, needing only minor reconditioning. May also be a deteriorated restoration or a very poor amateur restoration. Most usable "as-is". Some of the vehicles in this publication could be considered "Daily Drivers" and are not valued as a classic vehicle. When determining a value for a daily driver, it is recommended that the subscriber use the low retail value. Note: This value does not represent a "parts car". Average Retail Value This vehicle would be in good condition overall. It could be an older restoration or a well-maintained original vehicle. Completely operable. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are presentable and serviceable inside and out. A "20-footer". High Retail Value This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle *. * "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle is not driven. It would generally be in a museum or transported in an enclosed trailer to concourse judging and car shows. This type of car would be stored in a climate-regulated facility. Car is sold as-is. Car would sell easily for $21~23,000, NADA value $26,000. $13,900 Cash or wire transfer only. $2,500 deposit next business day, full payment 3 business days. Call to discuss any issues before bidding. Vehicle does not transfer until all funds are verified cleared. Car comes with optional hard top, stand as shown, car top cover, and original Mercedes car cover for whole car. I can assist buyer with shipping or delivery if needed, to be mutually agreeable. Thanks. Any questions or More info call Mark @ 586-776-8383 Car is listed locally as well.On Jul-07-12 at 16:07:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Please NOTE: I will sell worldwide. Also, purchased car for $24,900, then spent $13,000 to make it super nice. Reason for low price is to sell fast, Divorce. What I would also do is offer buy car back this fall if nothing has substantially changed in condition for same price if I could, because I will not be able to duplicate this car/deal for less than $30,000. My loss is your gain.On Jul-09-12 at 17:38:02 PDT, seller added the following information: The Alpine iDA-X305S iPhone/iPod/Pandora series radio installed with new hi-end speakers also has a Bluetooth adapter for your cell phone (i didn't install it, it will be in trunk w/original Becker cassette stereo)On Jul-11-12 at 11:02:16 PDT, seller added the following information: Please check my feedback as a seller, couple of cars and a bike, I have 100% postitive feedback!
