Vehicle Detail
I am the second owner of this 1981 Mercedes Benz 300CD. I purchased it about 6 years ago with 81,000 from an agent of the second owner. I installed a Greasecar kit in it. I drove it now and then for a few years but put very few miles on it (it now has 86,000) as I walked to work. I've since moved and had a child. The car has pretty much become a very stylish lawn ornament and it has to go. The GreaseCar Kit: This car has a second heated fuel tank in the trunk (where the spare tire was) setup to power the vehicle with Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO). It has a extra fuel gauge and rocker switch which allows the driver to switch the car once running from the internal diesel tank to the GreaseCar tank in the trunk. Using this system you can drive the car on renewable energy that is often able to be gotten for free from restaurants. For more information on the GreaseCar system check out their website at www.greasecar.com. I believe these kits currently sell for about $1200 (not including installation). The Bad: The car has a rusted exhaust pipe going from the engine down to the muffler that needs to be replaced. It has not been driven in 3 years. The battery is now dead. The grease car kit is installed but likely needs to be cleaned out. I think one of the doors wasn't shut securely over a winter, got some water inside and the carpets got nasty and have been removed. I'm not sure how much work needs to be done to make it road worthy again and I don't have the time to find out. It is being sold as is with no warranty and should not be driven until looked at by a mechanic. The Good: The car has very low original miles and still looks good. The previous owner mostly just left it in the garage and is shows. Very little rust for the age. When I parked it the AC ran cold, the sunroof, power locks, power antenna and everything worked fine. I suspect with a bit of TLC this could be a nice unique ride.
