Here's your chance to buy a getting harder to find 1986 Dodge slant 6 shorty cargo van. I 've owned it for little over a year and it is driven daily. Recent carburetor, front brakes, calipers, brake hoses, brake lines, alternator, driver's door hinge, and water pump . Just ordered a new gas tank on 6/26 from rockauto and will install as soon as it gets here. I wasn't satisfied with the repair on the old one. Also the exhaust manifold is cracked. I tempoarily fixed it with some JB stick weld so it's a bit quieter now. Idles beautifully and smoothly. No valve clacking, no noises,no smoke,even on start-up, and doesn't burn any oil. Rides very nice and straight. Engine starts right up cold. Idles smoothly and revs up with a lot of power with only 119000 wisconsin highway miles. BODY: VERY Nice chrome,body could use some patch panels, but NO LARGE DENTS and no evidence of ever an accident. Back floor has the usual rust in back where the deck meets the wheel wells. Underbody has some surface rust here and there in spots but nothing to drastic. Frame is SOLID. MECHANICALS: Running 3:54 gears in a quiet 8 1/4 rear end. Power steering and brakes, no a/c, and blast furnace heat in winter. The steering gear has a little slop in it, there are 2 barely noticable rock chips in the windshield with slight fogging at the lower edges. I have a good extra windshield that I'll include. You have to hold the turn signal in the up position when making a right turn. Horn relay clicks but the horn isn't working, ( it's more fun to shout obsenities out the window), but, if I have a chance I'll take a look at it. NO fluid leaks. INTERIOR: super nice with low back seats , 3 point seat belts,and a perfect dash with working gauges. Factory rubber front floor, beautiful sunvisors and armrests all in matching factory black. All doors ,hinges ,windows and locks work properly. The rear cargo area has plywood screwed down to the bed and sides and decent carpeting. Manual driver's lower vent door and passenger vent push-pull lever all work. TRANSMISSION: solid engagement in reverse or drive when cold, and shifts through 2nd and 3rd firmly at the correct speeds, . Kickdown works as it should, looks like it may have been rebuilt because one of the lines was cut and reconnected with a brass compression fitting,(typical trans shop move). In a nut shell , it's rock solid. This van is a keeper and fortunately survived the cash for clunker debacle. Trick it out or just drive it as it is and give it some TLC at your leisure. Good for a contractor or a hauler run-about, OR turn it into a shag van, which is what I was going to do. It's a great affordable candidate. And remember, THEY ARE GETTING RARE. I would not hesitate to drive it to anywhere in the U.S. It has LOW miles and shows it aside from the usual rust spots.
