Vehicle Detail
You are looking at an original 1974 Plymouth Road Runner undergoing its first restoration. This classic is complete and numbers matching with original parts per the build sheet. The paint is originally Deep Sherwood Iridescent, which looks great with the green interior. This RR turned heads, and was always just plain fun to drive. The original 360 engine is matched to the original factory Pistol Grip 4 speed and 3.23:1 geared rear. The rear end still has the original gear tag on the rear end. The car has it's fender tags, drivers door VIN decal, and build sheet. I bought this original Plymouth Roadrunner in 1983 as the third owner. In 1987 I sold it to a friend who drove it minimally, and I bought it back to restore in 2000. Since I wanted this done well, I have had different professionals work on the car over the last 10 years. The drive train and suspension was first in 2001 - 2003. A local mechanic inspected and restored the car to excellent running condition. The engine was completely torn down and rebuilt, including replacing the dynamic balancer and refurbishing the original Carter 4 Barrel Thermo-quad carburetor. He installed a new clutch and pressure plate. He inspected and repaired any minor front-end elements, including any bushings that were worn. The exhaust system was replaced, and the original speedometer was rebuilt through Year 1. The only system that we did not fix at that time was the A/C. All the original A/C parts are still in the car with the exception of the compressor. The body came next. A local body shop teacher who restores Mopars on the side took this job. We drove the car into his shop in October 2004 and he started the 'body-on' restoration at the back-end of the car. He methodically cut-in sheet metal on any significant rust, and removed any surface rust / primed as he went. He basically completed the key areas of the car: the roof, rear quarter panels, trunk, door pillars and rocker panels, and interior (floor), with the exception of one remaining rust spot (see pictures close-up) . He repaired the driver's side seat mount that is usually broken on these 4 speeds. He has the car disassembled getting ready for paint. All the doors, fenders, hood, and bumper panels are off the car for individual prep and paint. The only part that he recommended we replace is the left front fender, all the other parts just have surface rust that he said would be no problem to repair, including the trunk floor and fire wall. I have a complete set of decals from Phoenix Graphics ready to install. The interior is in pretty good shape but will need to be completed. The door panels and all trim are in good condition. The seats are complete, but need to be recovered. The dash pad has a cracks, and the headliner has been removed. The steering wheel is fine and the Beep Beep Roadrunner horn works. All the gauges work, the lights, directionals, dome light, key buzzer and reverse light all work. The glass is all intact and good - with the exception of the windshield that was cracked during the restoration, and the weather stripping (included new from Year 1) will need to be replaced. The original AM radio works, and I have a slide mount for a Pioneer Super Tuner FM /Cassette that is wired through an amp to Jenson Tri-Axial speakers on the back deck. If you are looking for an un-maligned classic muscle car to get into affordably - this is it. In fact, you can choose your colors and be cruising this summer! I have set the price very low - certainly below what I have invested, and the value will be there when you complete her. She is matching #'s, and documented with fender tags and build sheet.
