Vehicle Detail

1971 MAZDA BTA-65 "familia" pickup. This is in excellent condition for a vintage Japanese truck. It's primary use was as a tow vehicle. The odometer shows 15675 miles, I have no reason to think that there are more miles than indicated. The sun visors have never had the protective plastic bags removed! The engine is an 1169cc four cylinder, not a rotary. 4 speed manual transmission. It is very original, even with air pump. The jack and jack handle are behind the seat, there is the remains of the tool bag and some tools, and a new v-belt from mazda dated 1972. The sales order and receipt are shown and I have a clear Washington title. All the paint is original with no previous damage repair. The paint is chipped pretty bad on the lower frontal area from being towed, and the front signal lenses are broken. Unfortunately speakers were added behind the seat, and I believe the radio is not a MAZDA item. All rust is surface only with the worst being under the drivers side floormat, NO HOLES. The underneath view is the bottom of the drivers side floor. The passenger side is fine. I have not run this engine. The man I purchased the truck from said it runs well but has "oil consumption problems". Rings perhaps? The brakes also do not operate. It was last licensed in 2008. I do not know the last time it was actually run. Is it small? Consider the size of the license plate in the frontal view! It only weighs 1810 lbs! Anyway it was sold from SCHUBACH MAZDA in Spokane, WA. Mazda entered the U.S. market in 1970 and this is a 71'. Schubach Mazda was the first Mazda U.S. dealer according to Mr. Schubach's obituary. I have found images on GOOGLE of Mazda familia sedans and wagons with the same frontal sheetmetal. There is more information contained at ALLCARWIKI. I have always been an automotive enthusiast with an eye for the unusual. I had never seen one of these prior to finding this example. There is very little information to be found about this model in the U.S. I have every reason to think it is quite rare and deserving a good home with a knowledgable collector. The pictures tell the rest of the story, ask questions if need be. More pics? Ask and I will try to post before the end of auction. Truck is sold "as is, where is". Shipping is the buyers responsibility. Payment by paypal up to their maximum, and balance by certified check or personal check (once cleared). On Jun-21-12 at 19:57:18 PDT, seller added the following information: This is an addition to the description to clarify and answer some questions. NO the truck is not for sale outside the auction. Yes the hood opens from the rear like a corvette does. The wheels are 5 lug and 12" diameter. The tire size on these old tires is 6.00-12. All the glass is perfect and original. No delamination, cracks or bulls-eye's. There are many details I did not show due to a 24 picture limit, tags, stickers etc. I did put power to it long enough to determine that the engine does indeed turn over but I did not start it (not enough time). Saturday I plan to make it run, and if I am clever enough I will post a video of it running on you-tube. Thank's!On Jun-23-12 at 15:26:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Okay, THE ENGINE RUNS! No knocks rattles or other obnoxious noises. And I have a nice video of it, but you tube doesn't recognize the format. I will try again or find someone who knows how to upload it's format. But the answer is YES IT RUNS.On Jun-25-12 at 06:51:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Here is the link to the engine running video. NOTE: When I removed the battery there is rust through under the battery tray. http://youtu.be/q1eJog-ukLoOn Jun-25-12 at 09:04:16 PDT, seller added the following information: OOPS! Please excuse me this is the first video I've ever posted. Just search You Tube for: MAZDA BTA-65
