Vehicle Detail
This is a 1967 Porsche 912 Short Wheel Base Coupe Karmann. Numbers all match according to 912Registry.org . It is in good condition, solid body and no rust. Very fun to drive and there are only a few still around for sale. Only 5,103 were built in 1967. A ducktail rear engine cover was installed last year and I still have the original lid if needed. Paint is a pearl white with only one tiny scratch on the driver’s door. Original color was Gulf Blue. All lights work and electrical system are in good condition. The 5-speed transmission shifts smoothly. The front calipers have been replaced along with the brake pads and front brake lines. Battery is less than six months old. It has four new 15inch Hankook tires on Fuchs wheels. I also have the original wheels if needed. The engine was disassembled, cleaned and has a 1750cc 86mm big bore kit added. The clutch assembly was also replaced at that time. The Weber fuel system was fitted with new Empi dual carbs. The distributor was replaced about six months ago but not upgraded to electronic, still has points. The radio is a RetroSound unit. This 912 has been my daily driver for the last year. Registration and State Inspection are current. It has a clear Texas title. OK, here is the bad… As usual the heating system does not work properly, but living in Texas it didn’t matter to me. It needs new heater control cables. It will force heat all the time if the rear heat ducts are connected. The Fuchs wheels need to be polished or refinished. The old generator system should be upgraded and fitted with an alternator kit from http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1199564 Upgrade will provide better starting and brighter headlights. The charging system works fine but if the car is left for a week without starting the battery may drain while trying to start, otherwise will start and run if used everyday. Since the engine has a Big Bore Kit it can use a better CamShaft and better cylinder heads. The engine will misfire or ping at times if low octane fuel is used. The compression is a lot higher than the stock 1500cc as the pistons have three main rings and an oil ring. I run the highest-octane fuel I can get with an additive. There is a slight oil leak at the rear of the engine where the tranny is. The interior can use a face-lift. The front seats are in great condition but the backs of the rear seats are faded and need to be dyed or recovered. The headliner on the rear driver’s side needs to be re-glued. The floor cover needs to be replaced but is in fair condition. Can also use a dash cover. The clock does not work and the speedo is a little off but all the other gauges are in working condition. I have tried to describe this 912 as best I could so there will be no surprises. I really love this car and hate to let it go but I am rebuilding my 944-race car and need some funds to finish it. I have set a low reserve to sell.
