Vehicle Detail

Beautiful 1974 BMW 3.0CS Euro / 4 Speed AILE BLANCHE(white wing) This is a driver-grade car that can be enjoyed now and upgraded gradually, or would be a very good candidate for a full-on restoration. I love great design and the E9 is in my personal Pantheon of the most beautiful cars of all time. Her functionality adds to her appeal and steady price appreciation. Only about 30,000 were built over a 7 year period, many of which have by now turned into peat moss due to rampant corrosion that was common for these and other cars of the era. E9s are more precious and few than ever, good examples are highly prized and hard to find. E9 Rust is to be expected; unrepairable rust is to be avoided. Key Points:Serviceable front shock towers with the original sound deadening material in place. Tight fit, Euro bumpers, front and rear. The driver's seat recline function DOES NOT WORK and is stuck in the 'Guido Barcalounger' mode, needs repair. The Speedo / Odometer is in KMs and DOES NOT WORK, therefore the true mileage is unknown.Small 'Flintstones floor' area under gas pedal area that allows for visual inspection of street from the drivers seat. Easy fix.No sunroof and that's just the way I like it. Door bottoms showing some rust and some blossoming bondo from the Regan era.Air conditioning compressor is intact, however not connected. Condition unknown.Manual, crank front windows, power rear windows.Rear shock towers have been serviced by prior owner. Fan, heater, defroster, vent, all working. Radiator, Fan and Fan Clutch all upgraded at some point by prior owner. Some 'bubbling bondo' around front and rear windshields.Transmission and clutch work well, however 3rd gear is a bit of a growler, but chicks dig it.Set of 4 BBS / Mahle 14" wheels with BMW stampings. Period accessory. New replica trapezoidal passenger side mirror that is mismatched to the flag style drivers mirror.Beautiful Nardi wheel. Horn not functioning. Stereo sounds great, power antenna works.Euro-only rear fog lamp works.New Hazard switch in box is included, along with BMW trunk emblem and 'CS' part of the trunk badging. The '3.0' piece is missing.A good number of front end parts have been replaced in the past 60 days resulting in tight, sure-footed steering and handling. I have 3 SETS OF KEYS and a stack of records and photos that go with the car.General Notes and Observations:Her original color is Chamonix White, however presently she is metallic white. I have pics showing a (partial?) bare metal respray, which I would guesstimate as having been carried out at least 10 years ago. She is not a show car, not restored and not perfect. As I was told and is substantiated by records provided, the car came to Texas around 1984, then onto Southern California. I bought the car because of the reasonable state of the front shock towers, which, while imperfect, are very serviceable and unmolested. This means there are no bad repairs to undo and nothing hidden by slipshod craftsmanship. Note to E9 buyers: There are many E9s out there that look great but are not viable as keepers because of the huge expense involved in properly rebuilding this vulnerable area of these cars. The prettiest girl can be a carrier. Another vulnerable area is related to the sunroofs on these cars, which she happily does not have. My objective was to upgrade the car continuously, to be used as a presentable, safe and comfortable daily driver. I specifically searched for a Non-Sunroof, Euro 4-Speed CS (carbs). Tires are Chinese-cheapos, but ride fine and have plenty of tread left. The trunk lid outer 6" edge has been repaired and primed. With the exception of the KILOMTER SPEEDO / ODO, all of the gauges work including the clock. The engine bay is neat and clean. There are no drips or blow-by under the hood at idle, however at startup, she will emit a small puff of smoke. The motor pulls strong with plenty of power and the 32/36 Webers feel dialed-in. The clutch engages quickly and with assurance, the brakes are solid and inspire confidence. Front seats have fitted sheepskins which are quite comfortable. Summary:Aile Blanche is a great entry-level E9 that can be used today and ungraded gradually over time. Her general condition is consistent with the documentation that reveals her having been in a dry climate for nearly 30 of her 40 years. While SHE IS NOT RUST-FREE, all of her issues are addressable and there do not appear to be any structural issues. Please note that there are lots of details related to this car and if I have inadvertently omitted something, kindly bring it to my attention, I will post the answers promptly for the benefit of all.Deal Specifics:A $500 deposit via PayPal within 48 hours of close of auction.
