Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this 1973 Volkswagen Thing. Original California blue plate dry climate survivor. Appears to be all original paint with no signs of any serious accidents or metal replacement ever being done or needing to be done. Small dings and scratches that you would expect to find on a vehicle with this age. Paint is very respectable and still shines well. Odometer reads just under 42k miles and it is unknown if this is the original mileage or if it has turned over, but the prior owner believed it to be original. This is a very solid car with no rust in the pans or in the usual areas. Has some small minor bubbles in the lower rocker near the back, but nothing serious. Runs and drives well and is currently registered. Everything appears to work as it should: wipers, turn signals, gauges, lights, and original gas heater. The turn signal cancel is the only thing that I can see that does not currently work. Engine is a 1600 dual port that has had a recent tune up and oil change along with a new exhaust installed. The engine has plenty of power and runs and sounds well. Transmission is a 4 speed manual and shifts smooth through all gears with no differential noise or popping out of gears. Original vintage VW Hurst trigger shifter. Brakes work as they should. Interior is in good original condition. 5 new tires (including spare on stock 4 lug rim) mounted and balanced on new Porsche/Mahle style gas burner rims. Top is in good condition for it's age but does have some wear to it, but is usable as is. Original factory/VW roll bar. Comes with all 4 original side curtains that can be used as is, but would benefit from being freshened up. Overall this is a very solid and complete Thing in a great color combo that gets plenty of attention wherever it goes and is ready to be enjoyed, appreciated, and well loved for hopefully another 40 years. Clear California title and current registration included with the sale. This auction is being listed with no reserve and will sell to the highest bidder.
