Vehicle Detail

Extremely RARE, 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1. #646 of 678 built in 1970. Documented Original California Emissions car, numbers matching Stage 1 Block, Heads, Transmission, Rear end e.t.c.. The vehicle has undergone a complete Frame Off every single nut and bolt Restoration in year 2000 by Tri-Shield Performance in Minnesota. There are over 250 Polaroid pictures that document every stage of the restoration process. It is extremely important that when a car is restored to have a reputable restoration Shop do the restoration, AND to have as many pictures as possible of the process. This vehicle has both of those. In addition, the car has several forms of documentation including paperwork from the GSX Historical Society, copy of window sticker showing the Dealership the car came from, all options, pricing, e.t.c.. This GSX is also registered on the Buick GSX Registry at BuickGSX. net . There is also some documents showing the name of the original owner (that bought the car new in Ventura CA and kept it for nearly 30 years where it resided at a home on the corner of Mulholland and Topanga Canyon in the heart of the muscle car racing scene in 1970!) , and the second owner (that only possessed the car for less than a year) before the car was purchased by us in 2000. This GSX has been very well cared for since it's restoration, constantly garaged and covered when not being driven on clear sunny days to car shows and cruises. It has won multiple awards at car shows including largely attended Buick Olds Pontiac (BOP) shows in and outside of Florida. To give an example of how rare Buick GSX's are - ask yourself when is the last time you have seen one in person. How many have you seen in a Barrett Jackson auction or a Mecum? Out of 678 GSX's built in 1970, only 187 were ever painted Apollo White. Out of those Apollo White cars only about 15 of those were believed to be California cars. If you check out buickgsx. net , ONLY 2 Apollo White GSX's that are registered now as True California Emissions cars. In addition, we have every single reciept of the entire restoration process including dates, part#'s, descriptions , and prices. Everything is documented. The 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 was grossly underrated at 360hp by Buick. Being that it was the 2nd FASTEST Muscle car in 1970 - yes the 2nd fastest - beating hemi's, every vette, the Boss 429, e.t.c.. People quickly realized it had closer to 450 Hp. During the restoration, the decision was made to restore the vehicle in a manner that was correct but some decisions were purposely made to ensure that the car would be fun to drive and easily cared for. At no time did we ever want to have the car as a trailer queen. We bought the car to enjoy spending time driving it to shows and meeting all the great people that share the same passion. With this being said, the car was restored VERY close to how it would have been done to restore a #1 Trailer queen type car. You have all #'s matching block, heads, Transmission, rear end, e.t.c. but things that we decided to do differently were the following; We did not want to have to worry about the extra care that is required when you have semi flat lacquer black stripes, so we decided to clear over the stripes as many have done with other GSX's that have been restored, for this very reason. Luckily, we have not seen a punishment in the sales of GSX's that have their stripes cleared instead of flat. We wanted to have a little more performance than stock, so we decided on headers and a nicely done 3 inch exhaust (that sounds absolutely incredible) that Tri Shield Performance installed so perfectly - you can not see the exhaust hanging down anywhere and the tips reside right where they did in 1970.. The other area that we wanted to make sure we addressed was the rear end of the GSX - this is an area that was notoriously weak for the Buick GSX's as they had to deal with the most amount of Torque ever produced in an American made muscle car that kept its highest TQ rating for over 30 years! We decided to purchase and install a beefed up 12 bolt from a 67 Chevelle that fits perfectly in place of the smaller less robust stock unit. We do have the original rear end sitting in the garage and it will of course go with the car. In the Engine compartment, everything is correct and original with exception to the Carb that requires no choke and starts perfectly every time (a Holley 1000 CFM 4 corner idle sits atop that runs absolutely perfect and steadily idles at 800 rpms all day long), the valve covers are from TA Performance and are custom (we have the chrome ones that are believed to be orig), the ignition has been upgraded to an HEI unit along with a hidden MSD box with a rev limiter, and of course a newer battery. We have the original Air conditioner compressor and all the parts to put back on. After the restoration the A/C wasn't blowing cold, so we had the whole compressor rebuilt and we just never put the compressor back on the car. But all the parts and the compressor of course will go witht he car - all that is needed will be for it to be recharged and bolted back on. Everything else is all original and correct - everything. Even the fan shroud, the fan, and the radiator is the original unit. As far as the internals of the engine. Tri Shield Performance completely rebuilt the engine. The heads were slightly ported and then port matched, there is a little larger cam than the original, we added some Roller rockers to ensure durability and the engine was bored out .030. These are all very normal operations when restoring a vehicle of this nature. If the next owner chose to do so, it would not be hard to do and would not cost a ton of money to bring this car to a #1 condition GSX. This GSX drives EXTREMELY well.. It drives straight, does not have vibrations, does not pull to a side, e.t.c.. You can drive down the street at 40 mph or at 80 mph and the car will go straight and true. The steering wheel does not shake in the least. The brakes work well and the car is very powerful.. When the engine was completed, it was put on an engine dyno and it produced 532 hp and 560 ft lbs of Torque. Traveling at 70 mph, the RPM's are sitting at 2700. Cruising along at 70, if you were to just barely move the pedal down an inch - the car just starts to smoothly pull. For you guys and gals that like power -- even with 265 50 series rubber, if the car was floored at 60mph, the tires don't stand a chance. what's nice about this car (as we have had many) is that it drives like a BUICK. It is VERY comfortable, the seats are cushy, the steering can be managed by one finger, and the suspension is perfectly matched to allow the car it's soft ride but it still handles fairly well for a muscle car. Many of you may know that most muscle cars handle extremely poor, brake terribly, and steering sometimes can be a chore.. This car was designed by BUICK in 1970 to be at the top of the food chain in performance but do it in style and comfort. The Exterior of the car is extremely straight and the paint was done right. The stripes are absolutely perfect - in fact there have been Buick enthusiasts that we have let take measurements of the stripes on our car due to them being perfect. Not many know this, but the Buick GSX's have painted stripes from the factory unlike other cars that had most of their stripes as stickers. We have seen certain Buick GSX's even at car shows that have incorrect stripes. If you know what to look for , it stands out loudly when the stripes are not done properly. The wheels on the car are not the original wheels, they are reproductions. The metal on the car is all original and there was only one small spot on a rear quarter that needed to be properly repaired during the restoration by cutting the area (about a 1 inch tall by 5 inches wide section) and then properly welding in a fresh pc of metal. ALL of the chrome is original , ALL of the glass is original, ALL of the sills and moldings are original. The front grill is a reproduction, but we do have the original which is not being used due to after 30 plus years of heat and usage it is slightly warped in one area. The Interior. The interior of the car is COMPLETELY original with exception of the front seats have been re-skinned and the carpet was replaced due to the orig carpet being a little faded. Everything else is correct and original. The rear seat looks like it was never sat in, the roof liner is original, the center console is original, the entire dash, gauges, radio, e.t.c.. There are no rips or tears at all, it is all basically perfect and original. The car is located in Orlando, Florida and has a clear title. Shipping will be the responsibility of the buyer. The car is very reasonably priced at the reserve. Seller reserves the right to end auction at any time as the vehicle is also being offered locally.
