Vehicle Detail

Speedwell is a shop in Georgia that specializes in restoring vintage British sports cars. Our customers often have interesting modern cars too, so we routinely handle repairs to these select cars as well. Occassionally we are asked to list customer's cars on Ebay and this beautiful Porsche 968 is one such example. This 1993 Porsche 968 is owned by a retired gentleman. He has been this car's caretaker for two years, has always kept it garaged and has always kept it serviced (Oil changed, etc.). Among the service records that come with the car is a receipt for a major service at 66,000 miles including a new Timing Belt and Water Pump. The oil was last changed at 77,429 miles. The owner has had problems with his shoulder and is beginning to have a great deal of difficulty getting in and out of the car. For that reason, he has only driven it 8,000 miles in the two years he has owned it. Regretably, since his shoulder is only getting worse, he has asked me to list his 968 on Ebay. Please look at all the pictures provided and feel free to ask any questions. Additional pictures:http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy356/Speedwell1/ For those of you that are unfamiliar with this unique Porsche, please check out this link for a little history on these cars:http://porsche-968.blogspot.com/2007/08/some-history.html Driving experience- This car is as you would expect of such a low mileage example. It starts immediately and settles right in to a smooth idle. There are no strange noises or ticks, just the sound of a healthy engine at rest. The gear selector moves easily into Drive and the gearbox engages smoothly. The car is very responsive and pulls easily away from the curb. If you push the accelerator a little further down the torquey big bore 3.0L engine starts to come into it's own. When you push the accelerator even farther down, the engine really comes to life and reminds you are driving one of the world's finest brands. Once at speed the car drives very smoothly and steers very responsively. The transmission changes from gear to gear without missing a beat and settles into a nice gait at highway speeds. The brakes are excellent and the car stops straight and sure. Interior- All the instruments and gauges work as they should. The climate control system works perfectly and the Air Conditioning is very cold. The dash is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. Even the leather steering wheel is pristine. As you will see in the pictures, the rest of the interior is quite pretty. I am very sensitive to cigarette smell in cars and can assure anyone that this car has NEVER been smoked in. Exterior- This car presents very well. It paint has a few chips and is not flawless but it is very shiny and gleams with a high gloss. The rubber welting on the lower outer sill cover needs a little attention but overall this is a very pretty car.The glass is in excellent condition with no chips or hazing. This is a southern car and hasn't a speck of rust. I have Super-sized all the pictures so you can inspect closely. Engine- The engine compartment is clean and original, clearly this car has always been cared for properly. The engine does not smoke, leak or make any unusual noises, just the sweet sound of the big Porsche 4 cylinder. An interesting side note is that when this car was produced, it had the second largest 4 cylinder ever seen in a passenger car. This naturally aspirated, 3.0L, 16 valve mechanical wonder develops within 10 HP of the earlier 944 Turbo. Things that need attention: The passenger side door and trunk lock actuators have stopped working (they still unlock with the key- manually). The owner bumped into a woman while reversing in a parking lot and cracked the right tail lens (see pictures). Though it is not that bad, it would be a good idea to replace it. Please take a look at the pictures in the photobucket link. There are many more pictures including some of the underside of the car. This car is probably the prettiest and most reliable Porsche a person can buy for this kind of money. I believe that about covers it but, again, feel free to email me with any questions. The car is available for test drive here at our shop, just email your name and phone number to me to set it up. On May-07-12 at 05:25:34 PDT, seller added the following information: New pictures of the following have been added to the photobucket page: The original spare (which appears unused), the original tool kit and the Porsche compressor are all with this car. The sunroof has some paint imperfections. There is some waviness under the paint. This is only on the sunroof panel and can only be seen from certain angles. I took some more pictures (from the best angle for capturing the imperfections) of the panel and uploaded them to the photobucket page but I don't know how well it shows up. This area could easily be re-done if it bothers you. Again, this is the only area on the car like this. To answer some of the questions that have been asked: The gas hood and trunk lift supports all work well. This car has a clear Georgia title and is currently registered and insured.
