Car is not running and has been sitting/stored for 5 years. I had problems with overheating and had had several items fixed but I think it was too late for the engine. From my understanding, car needs a new engine and possibly fuel tank. Because it has been sitting, it will most likely need new suspension and of course new tires. Exhaust will need to be replaced. Otherwise, the body is solid with minimal rust, except for one larger area of rust right under front windshield, and it is visible in the picture. Convertible top (outer part) was replace a year prior to when I stopped driving it, so it is in excellent condition other than being very dirty. Unfortunately, storage conditions for the vehicle were not ideal and car is very dirty on the outside because it spent some time outside under a tree. The interior is in great shape. This will make an excellent project car or an awesome parts car. I would love to drive it again but do not have the time or money to put into it, and do not want to go through the hassle of parting it out. Everything about the vehicle is original except for the outer part of the convertible top, as explained above, and the door handles. I believe I still have the original door handles and will include them if I can locate them, if the buyer is interested. Everyone I know with a similar VW has had problems with door handles and I went through several sets while I owned the vehicle. I purchased the car in 1997 and have had it since then. Vehicle is for local pick up only. Once again, it is not in running condition and will require a flatbed tow. I am located in Rockford, IL, which is roughly an hour and a half outside of Chicago, IL, and just south of the WI/ILborder. Payment is through cashier's check or PayPal only. If you are interested in paying cash at pick up, you will need to contact me, as I will consider this, but will require a deposit through PayPal of $250.00 within 48 hours of auction closing. If no deposit or communication is made within 72 hours of close of auction, item will be relisted. Vehicle is being sold AS IS. If it needs any additional work besides what is described above or what is obvious through the pictures, there will be no additional responsibility on the seller's end. Buyer will take full responsibility for vehicle after transaction is completed. The vehicle is being stored for me at an alternate location, so if there are specific questions I will try to answer them as quickly as possible, but allow for a delay if you are requesting additional photographs of any other parts of the vehicle. Also, if for some reason I am unable to sell the vehicle, I will consider parting it out, so if there are specific parts you are interested in, you can also message me and I will let you know when those parts are listed, if it should come to that.
