Vehicle Detail
The Real Deal 1965 GTO 389 - Tri Power 4 Speed Posi Trac *87,893 Original miles* This is the real thing. NOT a clone. Originally a California car and has been garaged 99% of the time. You are bidding on a real classic muscle car. This is a collectors dream. There is no sign of collision damage and no obvious cancer. Very hard to find! -Body- This is the "2 door post" car. It's really straight but not perfect. It was repainted (stock color) at some point by most likely some amateurs that did some uneven sanding. It can only be seen at certain angles. The paint has faded from age but hasn't been buffed. There are a few nicks here and there and are shown in the pics. The trim is in great shape. The bumper chrome needs re-plated. All emblems are intact. The weather stripping is dried out and deteriorating. The passenger side mirror is not original and fit differently, leaving a bare spot. -Interior- It has blue interior that's in pretty good shape overall. Especially for being original. It does have a couple spots where the stitching came apart from age. The original AM Radio is still intact and has never been removed. There is a modern CD player installed under the dash. It has the tach and gauges. All the wiring is good. The wiper switch has decided to give up however. Easy fix. -Drivetrain- Still has the original 389. The Tri-Power was replaced with an aluminum intake and new 4 bbl. due to 2 of the 3 base plates having cracks. The entire set up is in the trunk and goes with the car obviously. Get 2 baseplates and it's back in business. The engine runs great with no smoke or funny noises. The transmission is also the original and shifts great and feels nice and tight. The rear is also the original posi-trac and has 4.11 gearing. Power steering and manual brakes. The front drums are the aluminum option. -Overall- This is a car that spent most of the last 20 years just sitting in a garage. It was driven very rarely but enough to keep things working. It runs and drives just like it did from the factory. It has not been messed with. It's extremely hard to find a car like this that hasn't been rebuilt or restored by now. You can see exactly what you are getting with it and know that it's been left alone. Some people call it a "patina" I guess. It is not a flawless car. It is a 47 year old car. It also comes with the original steel wheels and hub caps. Feel free to ask any questions. Hopefully I covered everything. I am selling this for my uncle and have stated everything as accurately as possible. Car will go up for auction once and will be sold locally if there is not a winning bidder. Low reserve. Happy Bidding On Apr-27-12 at 20:39:07 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention - It has all the PHS documentation showing proof of being a GTO and all options. On Apr-30-12 at 14:50:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Transmission Casting - Casting: 3851325 Years: 1964 - 1965 Ratios: M20 2.56 1st , M21 2.20 1st I am looking for the rear axle code to determine the gearing but I can't see it. The PHS documentation shows it came with the 3:55 but someone in the GTO club told him (my uncle) it was the 4:11 when they looked at it. I don't want to pull the pan off so I'll keep looking for the code. On another note - I put the car in the air and there is NO RUST at all that I can find. Not even a start of rust anywhere. Nice flat floor pans and not beat up from anything. On Apr-30-12 at 16:40:21 PDT, seller added the following information: Update- I do believe it is a 3:55 rear. There is a faint stamping on the axle tube that appears to be a 3 55 and then a harder stamped "L" . This would correlate with the PHS documentation. The posi tag is still on the pan bolt but does not indicate gearing. While under there I checked around for other stuff and found a small amount of play in the slip yoke in the transmission tail shaft. My uncle tells me it vibrates a little at about 55 mph and this would explain it. If there's anything else you need to know just ask. I did take pics of the floor pan and can email those if needed. The reserve is near, so again, Happy Bidding. On May-03-12 at 08:56:10 PDT, seller added the following information:Good news- While going through the files for the car I found the Protecto Plate and the Protection Plan book. Also the original owners manual.
