Vehicle Detail

I'm offering for sale my 1962 Scout 80 4 x 4 Pickup that I have owned and driven for the past 25 years. It has been a faithful companion at my camp in the mountains, and I truly hate to part with it. But I'm getting too old to fiddle with it anymore. When I bought it from a local veternarian, the non-working odometer read some 46,000 miles. I think that was pretty close to actual, but can't swear to it. I only used the Scout to putter around on my own property, and honestly think I put less than 2500 miles on it during the time I have had it. The body is in pretty good condition which you can assess from the photos. It has some rust, but not too bad (rocker panels, rear quarter panels, and floors. The floor boards should be replaced - I have them covered with rubber matting which serves my purpose nicely. The engine is fine - starts every time, runs great and has never used oil. Transmission and transfer case are also fine with the exception that the transmission slips out of 2nd gear when used as a down-hill retarder. Heater/defroster works fine as do the vacuum windshield wipers although the drivers side is sluggish. The oil, fuel and amp guages are after market, and the headlight switch has been replaced (no dimmer switch). The emergency brake will need a new cable to be operational. About 15 years ago I replaced the left front hub with one from a '64 Scout. It works fine although it has a larger brake shoe and drum. I have the right side hub and parts that will go with the sale. One of the outstanding features of the Scout is the heavy duty PTO winch with heavy bumper and brush guard (see photo). This winch is in excellent condition and works great, and was made for this model Scout. There is a hole in the exhaust pipe, and it will need to be replaced, although I have run it like that for 20 years. I have had the clutch slave cylinder rebuilt recently, but it still leaks and will need to be replaced. Brakes have some new hoses and lines, and work fine. This is a good Scout that needs some TLC to be driven on public roads. It will not currently pass State inspection. The top comes off easily, the windshield folds down, and it is really fun to drive like that in the summer time. All the glass is good, and the sliding windows and frames are in good shape. It has a clear title, and I have a file of things I have done to it since I've owned it.
