Full payment required within 7 days of auction close. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pick-up or shipping I purchased this car in December 2001 as a gift for my wife (1955 high school grad) but she can no longer drive. Restored in 2001, this 1955 Thunderbird shows just 558 miles since it was completed. Finished in Fiesta Red, this Thunderbird is expertly finished and all the wonderful details that made them a hit then are still in place. Many enthusiasts regard the ’55 as the purest of the early ‘Birds. A fully removable hard top can be removed for sunny weather enjoyment. The quality of the paint is good, with a deep shine over the straight sheet metal. The doors align precisely, the hood opens effortlessly, and even the trunk with its pass-through to the fuel filler door has just the right fit. There’s plenty of chrome, too, and it has all been polished or refinished, including the rear bumper with unique bumper guard exhaust tips. Fender skirts are included, but not installed. Personally, I kind of like the no-skirt look. A red and white interior was the proper choice with a Fiesta Red body, and all the soft parts are like new condition. This one features a power bench seat and what might be the most beautiful door panels ever created. That strip of engine-turned aluminum that stretches across the interior is pure ‘50s cool.. The gauges actually appear original, although the odometer was reset at the time of restoration, and there aren’t many cooler designs than the speedometer with the plexiglass rear window to light it from within. For 1955, the only engine available was a 292 cubic inch Y-block V8 fed by a rudimentary ram-air system through the hood scoop. Underneath, you’ll find a Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission as a willing travel partner, and a clean chassis with no rust. Those gorgeous 14-inch whitewall radials look right at home on the Thunderbird. The vacuum windshield wiper motor has failed, but I have an electric replacement that has not yet been installed.
