Vehicle Detail

1966 Mercury S55 in original condition, unrestored. Dry California car all its life. Originally delivered to Oakland CA. I hate to use the word rare because Everyone thinks their car is rare. But when was the last time you saw one of these on the road or at a show? Only 2916 S55's were built in 1966. This car is a 2 door fastback with optional Vinyl Roof. The vinyl roof is nice because it has chrome trim all the way around and give the car an extra pop. The car has been garaged and still has its original roof, with one repair (seen in photos). The miles are currently 92825, original. This is a Q code car from the factory and first year of the 428 Big block Super Marauder. It runs great, fires right up, idles smooth, and does not smoke. This car is a monster, open up the 4bbl and hit the passing gear and you will understand the awesome raw power of a 7 liter 428. Factory Dual exhaust help give it the 345 HP to the rear wheels. The special alloy iron block overhead valve engine used hydraulic lifters. Large bore of 4.13 inches and a 3.98 stroke with compression ratio of 10.5:1. Its torque rating is 462 foot lbs at 2800 rpm. This car also has the added benefit of a Brand new Edlebrock Intake, Edlebrock Carb And New Polished Cobra Lemans Valve Covers and New distributor. All the stock engine take off parts are included (intake, carb, mercury valve covers and Air Filter housing). Nice tight dual exhaust sounds AWESOME! The car has 100 percent original interior all the way down to the carpet. It still looks great. One tear in drivers seat bolster, thats it. Otherwise mint. Headliner is great. Every single piece of glass is original to the car. Floors are 100% solid. The S55 came with factory Bucket seats and console. The console has a great S55 Logo at the top. The car has its original radio still in the dash and a modern Pioneer Stereo, CD, MP3 player added under the dash with ipod/iphone jack to play your music or pandora. Power windows have new motors, all 4. They all work with exception of the driver window and I believe it to be the switch. Brand New Les Schwab tires with less than 500 miles. All Season Grand Prix performance GT. Trunk is clean and solid, see photos. The body is very straight and solid. One repaint about 20 years ago very close to the original color. Med Palomino Metallic. A couple of chips, scratches etc.. but overall still looks good. I took close up photos of the paint issues. The are a couple of blisters in the bottom of the quarter panel. But this car is Solid, floors, rockers etc.. Pictures speak for themselves. I will ad a link of nearly 100 detailed photos and video of it running. This car has power steering and brakes. C6 Automatic transmission and 2.8 rear end ratio. It drives like a modern car, very tight. No squeeks and rattles going down the road, really feels solid. It does mark its spot when parked, probably rear main seal. The more I drive it the less it leaks. This is NOT your grandmas Mercury, though it looks like a grandma owned it. Very well cared for original car. Clear CA title and current registration with no back fees due. Can ship anywhere worldwide. Title matches vins on car. Please ask questions before bidding. Only bid if you can meet my terms, they will not be renegotiated after you have won the auction, so if you have issues ask before you bid. I can store the car for 45 days while shipping arrangements are made. From Wikipedia-For 1966, Mercury re-introduced the S-55 as separate model on its own with a 2-door Hardtop and a 2-door Convertible. While the S-55 in its previous years had been an upgraded interior and trim package, the 1966 S-55 was now all about performance. It was based on the Monterey trim level and came with the new for the year Super Marauder 428 V-8 engine that was rated at 345-hp. Dual exhaust for reduced engine back-pressure complete the power package. Ready at hand, a console mounted 4-speed manual transmission or a special Multi-Drive Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission (buyer's choice: optional at extra cost). (NOTE: Information available indicates that all automatic transmissions for the 1966 S-55 were the aluminum cased C6, however early production cars may have come with cast iron Ford "Cruise-O-Matic" or mixed material aluminum bell-housing and tail case with cast iron core Ford "Cruise-O-Matic" automatic transmission rebadged as Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission.) The interior featured bucket seats and a console with floor shifter similar to what you could find in Ford's luxury/performance full-size car, the 7-Litre. Styling accents include unique body side-striping, deluxe wheel covers and the distinctive S-55 emblem on rear quarter panel and 428 V-8 emblem on the front fender sides. The 1966 Mercury featured "Torque Box" construction—frames individually tuned to minimize noise and harshness. Styling was square and clean "in the Lincoln Continental tradition," as the ads put it. Few S-55's were sold, although Mercury generally had a successful big-car year in 1966.On Apr-18-12 at 06:52:56 PDT, seller added the following information: Here is a link to nearly a hundred detailed photos and videos of the car running- http://rides.webshots.com/album/582662074hgDDPm (You will have to cut and paste to your browser)
