Up for sale here is a 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. I am the second owner and have owned this car since 2002. I am selling this car because I hardly ever have time to drive it and I really need free up space in my garage and I'm not interested in paying to store it somewhere. Year after year I buy tabs for it , drive it a few times in the summer to run a tank or two of gas through it. Most of the time it sits safe and sound in the garage. I do start this car on a regular basis and let it warm up to operating temperature. This car runs and drives quite good considering its age. Occasionally the engines dies after starting , but always restarts. I think it may need a choke adjustment or some kind of carb. adjustment. At start up there is usually some blue smoke from the tailpipe ( oil I think ) it doesn't last long. Not sure what causes this although it may have something to do with the fact that its 30 years old. Although I don't drive this car much , I have done a lot of work to it in the past ten years. The tires have about 1000 miles on them. Other things that have been replaced include all 4 springs , rear shocks , front brakes , transmission fluid changed , alternator , water pump , fuel pump , distributor cap , distributor rotor , spark plugs and spark plug wires. A few years ago I had the carb re-built. Although some of these parts were replaced years ago , they still look like new because the car is in the garage all the time. This car gets an oil change every spring regardless of how many miles its had since the last oil change. It may be time for a new battery. I find that if I leave the battery connected and don't start the car for two weeks , it goes dead. The body is rust free and in very nice condition. I did have the car repainted its original red color in 2005. There are a couple nicks and dings ( see pictures ) The original owner had the car parked beside his garage for probably 15 plus years and the sun did a nice job of wrecking the original paint job. In those 15 plus years the sun also baked the interior parts in the hatchback as well. Hard to explain but they feel kind of grainy to the touch. The dashpad also has some cracks in it. The drivers seat has a tear in the side of it ( see picture ) The headliner has some duct tape holding it up in spots. All in all the interior is in decent shape for its age although it could use a good cleaning. Driver side mirror glass is cracked. The rear view mirror fell off a few years ago , I bought the repair kit to fix it but haven't fixed it yet. Something else to mention , the original owner removed the air conditioning system at some point. The wheels are missing the plastic hubcap covers as well , the seal around the windshield was removed when the car was painted and I have have not had a new one installed yet. It doesn't leak water around the windshield , the seal is a cosmetic thing from what I understand. Other things to note , 5.0 liter engine ( 305 ci ) 4 bbl carb. , power steering , power brakes , rear window defroster , T-Top roof. Alpine CD stereo with seperate EQ , 2 a/d/s power amps , 6 infinity speakers and infinity bass link sub. The stereo sounds quite nice. I've never shipped a car before but am willing to work with a potential buyer to get it shipped. The car is roadworthy and would probably really like a long drive if a potential buyer wanted to say fly here and drive it home.
