You are viewing a very special 1963 Studebaker Avanti R-1 coupe. This Avanti has had a complete restoration at a cost of over $60,000. I will tell you all I know about the car. It was sold by North Park Sales and Service located at 1640 N.LaSalle st. Chicago, Illinois. The Studebaker factory at the time was located in nearby South Bend, Indiana. The car was one of the launch edition of this all time classic. It spent most of its life in Georgia. It had the same owner for 35 years and was then sold to a car collector here in Florida. It was sold again some time in 1998 to a collector who deceided to restore it into a Restomod due to the increasing poularity. He had a 1981 Corvette which he bought new and got stolen and recovered in 2005. The body was destroyed but the engine was fine. The Corvette had well over 100,000 miles on it so he elected to have the engine rebuilt and installed into this Avanti that he had sitting in his wharehouse. The entire restoration took around 8 years to complete and the car was finally done in 2010. The actual restoration project started back in 2002. The car was taken all the way down to the frame before the restoration and custom work was done. Everything was replaced with either factory spec parts or one that were better and more advanced than they had available back in 1963 when Loewy first launced it for Studebaker. The car was actually built to rival the Corvette in 1963 being the only other American made all fiberglass car. Well I dont want to give you an entire history lesson here on the Avanti, I am sure most of you know and if you dont you could always Google it and become a near expert overnight. The dash is all digital and all the gauges are in good working order. The Grant wooden steering wheel is the nicest steering wheel I have ever seen in my 34 years in the business. In fact just about everything is in good working order and the car starts up on a dime and runs incredibly well. I would not hesitate to drive the car 1000 miles tonight, I feel that confident that this one was done right. To get back to the story of this masterpiece, the old man collector passed away just about a year ago now and his son is a friend of a friend here in South Florida. Most of the collection has already been sold off at Barrett-Jackson, Mecum, and other collector sales but about 10 cars remained when I came across this incredible masterpeice. The entire interior has been redone and an incredible sound and video system was installed without tearing up the car itself. It has a GPS Navigation system as well in its screen. The car has a set a real two tone wire wheels, which give the car a real old time look. The paint is in excellent condition, the chrome on the car hads all been redone and it shows. Underneath the car is clean and fresh with no drips or leaks or rust. The hog throgs have no rust at all. The windows, door locks, and all the basics are in very good working order. I even found a small Hot Wheels model for sale which goes with the car. One item is worth mentioning is that the air conditioning is blowing cold air thru the windshield vents and not the proper facial vents. Its a repair that my mechanic can fix for around $500, but he is slam busy. The bottom line here is that if you are looking for a really cool spring car, this one will yeild you big if you are willing to take a shot. My CPI book which I subscribe to has the car going up in value 4% every quarter for the past year. To find a one of a kind car like this for this kind of money is not easy to find. Thanks for taking the time to check out this listing. The Avanti has an incredible story which dated back to when the design which was drawn by Mr. Raymond Loewy the famed designer of his day. He tried to make a fiberglass sports car for Studebaker that could rival the famous Corvette. Loewy gathered a team of designers near his home in Palm Springs, California and began to design what came to be known as the "X-SHE" project which ultimately became the Avanti. Just Google the history for yourself and you will read all about it. Studebaker was a solid company when the car was built. Some years later the company was bought by the Worthinhgton Corporation who continued the tradition until 9/1/79. Chevrolet engines were used after the the plants closed in 1964. If you have been in the market for such a car, consider your search over. I have tried to price the car fairly to allow someone to own it at a fraction of what it cost to build. The car runs and drives fantastic. Remember the car is nearly 50 years old, what a tribute to Studebaker. There were 3,257 cars produced during the 1963-1964 period and there are probably less than 1000 still exist today. I try to bring you interesting, fun and value oriented vehicles that have been scrutinized by a knowledgeable person. My true endeavor is to allow you an opportunity to purchase a unique and exceptional vehicle at below market prices. A chance own a very special car exists here at a very reasonable price. I have a clear title in my hands as this fine car is waiting for you here in sunny Boca Raton, Florida.
