Mine are period correct NOS (new old stock) Hella lights front and rear that I added along with a custom brushed aluminum switch mounting plate and illuminated rocker switches. They are all completely removable if you wish. Mercedes did not offer fog lights as an option until late 1973 in Europe and August 1974 in U.S. Exterior Condition: The Papyrus/Off White exterior paint is 100% original with only minor touch ups. The condition, color, depth, clarity and shine on this 42 year old paint is absolutely superlative. No oxidation or fading. Just polished and waxed professionally and the result is hard to believe. However there is some minor “patina” which means there are some very minor blemishes which is expected of a car this age that was driven on a regular basis. Polished anodized aluminum glass trim (or brightwork) which wraps around all glass, doors, roof drip rails is brilliant and scratch free. No dents or fading. This car has always been garage kept and it shows. The factory14” steel rims and original matching chrome Papyrus hubcaps are in near perfect condition without any dents or visible blemishes. Tires are brand new Kuhmo P195/75/R14 and have an 85K mileage warranty. Trunk compartment is as new and includes both a brand new factory grey rubber mat as well as a custom fabricated black sound deadening carpet. All glass is factory original and has no fading, cracks or visible defects at all. Both front vent windows work as they should. Windshield could almost pass for brand new. Interior window rubber seals are perfect and rubber looks fresh and tight. Headliner is perforated cream colored leather and is perfect without any sags, rips or stains. The leather (real) door panels and map pockets look brand new. Instrument cluster looks as new without any fading of needles or numbers. Needles do not vibrate or “jump” at low speed. The chocolate leather dash is perfect and stunning, without any cracks at all. Dash speaker grill is flush, perfect, not warped or sun damaged. Burgundy carpet on rear hat/parcel shelf is not faded and looks brand new. Burgundy interiors will fade if exposed to prolonged sunlight and there is no fading anywhere on any interior pieces. Door panel leather is perfect without any sagging, bunching, shrinking or other defects found in cars that have been exposed to the elements/sun. Mechanical Condition: This sedan runs and drives like a dream. Exceptionally well maintained. Extensive service documentation and dealer service stamps in book. The OM615 4 cylinder 2.2 liter diesel engine is world renown for durability and fuel efficiency. This is a car that has served as a Taxi worldwide and many have accumulated well over a million miles. Gas mileage in city averages 23.8 mpg with AC running. City mileage of 25-26 mpg without AC. Car averages 28-33 on highway depending on speed and hills. I check mpg each fill up. Clutch is tight and firm. Shift action is smooth without grinding or sloppiness. Independent suspension is solid and comfortable. Steering feel is smooth and responsive, devoid of shakes, shimmy or steering play. Car has been aligned and tracks true and straight. Engine compartment is very clean, free of any grease or oil and all factory rubber and trim within engine compartment looks new and fresh. Undercarriage is equally clean. Car was recently serviced with oil change, oil bath filter cleaned, new motor mounts, new fan clutch and A/C was checked. There are no pending mechanical issues whatsoever. Clock will work once new plastic gears are fitted. Kits are available for about $60. All dash bulbs replaced and work as they should. Seats adjust and slide properly and smoothly. Glove box light and lock work perfectly. Glove box door opens/closes smoothly and closes flush and straight. All lights including high and low beam headlights, amber turn signals, clear white back up, license plate lights, brake lights, both interior dome lights, instrument lighting, glove box light and both lighted toggle switches that control rear and front fog lights all work as they should. Every bulb and fuse inside and out on this car has been replaced. One key fits door locks, glove box and trunk. Car has 3 brand new MB keys ordered from dealer plus 1 new valet key. Total of 4 keys (1 original & 3 new) plus 1 valet key. Valet key has matching burgundy leather MB key fob in addition to 2 unopened key fobs delivered with car when new. Mechanical Refurbishment: Here is a list of the mechanical refurbishment that I have completed. I have $14,000 in total receipts for this car in the almost 4 years that I have owned it. List of new items includes: new Kuhmo tires, new battery, new heavy duty Bilstein shocks-front and rear, new motor mounts-both, new fan clutch, new brakes, new sub frame mounts, new transmission mount, new shifter bushing, new fuel pumps and all fuel lines, new A/C hoses and new brass fittings and seals, new 35% window tint. Just performed oil service, valve adjustment, belts adjusted and A/C serviced. Just detailed and professionally polished using only Griott’s Garage and Zymol products. The following is a sampling of the work I have done to this vehicle in the last 3+ years and 4,000 miles to complete a mechanical refurbishment: 03/2009: New Keys (3) from MB dealer. 03/2009: Replaced fuel return hoses and primer pump. Replaced main fuel filter and pre filter. Replaced front & rear shocks with Bilstein HD. Replaced shifter bushing and transmission mount. New exhaust hangers, all. Valves adjusted and oil service. Replaced dash potentiometer (controls dash bulbs). A/C serviced. New Brakes. Replaced steering damper/shock. 06/2009: Replaced all A/C hoses to drier, condenser, compressor and from receiver drier to expansion valve. New brass fittings and rubber seals on A/C hoses and new compressor seals. 03/2010: Oil & A/C service. 04/2010: New Kuhmo tires. 3/2011: Oil & A/C service. Replaced fuel pump feed fittings. 9/2011: Tighten manifold, replaced fan clutch, adjust all belts, oil service, replaced both engine mounts. Checked valve adjustment. Issues with Car: *CLOCK DOES NOT WORK, NEEDS NEW PLASTIC GEARS. *FRONT AND REAR UNDER BUMPER LIP OR CHIN SPOILERS NEED TO BE RE-SPAYED DUE TO ROCK CHIPS AND TOUCH-UP PAINT USED. *EXTERIOR WINDOW RUBBER SEALS AND EXTERIOR WINDSHIELD SEAL ARE ORIGINAL AND WILL EVENTUALLY NEED REPLACEMENT. WELL CARED FOR BUT STARTING TO HARDEN AND AGE. THEY DO NOT LEAK. *PAINT UNDER HOOD WILL NEED TO BE RE-SPRAYED OR COVERED BY HOOD PAD AS SOME BLEMISHES WERE TREATED WITH POR15 RUST INHIBITOR. HOOD PADS WERE NOT STANDARD EQUIPMENT IN 1969. *RIGHT FRONT FENDER HAS A SCRATCH THAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED. *MUFFLER IS NEW BUT PART OF EXHAUST PIPE HAS SURFACE RUST AND LOOKS OLD. DOES NOT LEAK & PASSES EMISSIONS NOT A PROBLEM. History: Car was purchased new October 14, 1969 at Heshion Motors in Overland Park, Kansas. The family that bought the car new lived in Raytown, Missouri- about 25 miles away. Car was regularly serviced by Heshion Motors and service book was stamped. Later car was serviced by Aristocrat Motor Co in Kansas City, MO. Original family kept car from 10/1969 until 1981. Car was not driven as main family vehicle but was second car as gentleman’s wife did not like the manual transmission. The first family sold car to good friends in their bridge club who lived in nearby Marionville, MO. Same story- husband loved car, wife did not and it was driven often but mileage was slight. Both families kept car inside an enclosed machine workshop/garage on their properties. Second gentleman passed away and wife moved into a nursing home for the next 20 years. Car was kept by son, an attorney, whom I bought the car from. Car was basically stored between 1998 and 2009 when I bought car. Prior to my purchase the 2nd family took car to local MB dealer to steam clean gas tank, replace all filters etc. When I purchased car in March 2009, I replaced all fluids, lines, inspected gas tank etc as I began my mechanical refurbishment. In the almost four years that I have owned car, it has been featured in the local Phoenix Mercedes-Benz Club of America chapter newsletter. “The Stardust”. It was also loaned to Chandler Mercedes-Benz dealership for their 2010 E Class gala launch where one car from each of the 8 generations of E Class cars were featured. I have numerous photos. Under my ownership the car has been only serviced by Bud Cloninger at his shop MB Motors Ltd in Phoenix, AZ. He has 34 years experience and is a regular contributor and guest columnist in the MBCA (Mercedes Club) semi-monthly magazine, the Star. I have very little left to do on this car. Maybe $600-800 in paint work to touch up spoilers and under the hood and those new window seals. I’m selling the car as I have 3 MB and my wife has said that one must go. Wife is tired of the money and time I spend on this diesel. That’s my story, call me with any questions. I have over 500 photos, call me if you wish to see something specific, Ebay limits your photos. Rarity: The W114/115 chassis was built by MB between 1967-1976. An astonishing 1,919,056 were built and during this production run they built 420,270 diesels like this one- OM615 4 cylinder, 220 Diesels. However a very small percentage were imported into the U.S. in 1969 as the Mercedes dealer network was sparse and each car had to be ordered and delivered 4-6 months later. Most MB sold in 1969 were the SL’s or convertibles and not diesels. This car is very rare and in this condition, it is exceedingly rare. Many did not survive the ravages of time as rust proofing by MB at the factory was limited. Mercedes did not truly produce corrosion resistant cars until 1977/1978 when the 123 chassis cars received full zinc baths and other rust proofing treatments prior to factory paint. Mercedes diesels did not take off in the U.S. until 1975/1976 after the oil crisis of 1973 and with the launch of the 3.0 liter 5 cylinder engines. If you wish to read one of the definitive buyer’s guides to this W115 chassis, please look at the article written by Pierre Hedary in the July- August 2011 issue of the “Star”. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CALL MARK ON CELL 480-231-1150 Legal & Payment: Non-refundable deposit of $500 required via PayPal within 24 hours of auction close.
