Vehicle Detail
Speedwell is a restoration shop in Northeast Georgia. On occasion we are asked by customers to sell their car for them. This 1974.5 MGB is one such car. Our customer has owned this car for a long time and had a great time cruising the North Georgia mountains and driving this car around town. However, our customer has developed serious back issues and can no longer enjoy her. Rather than let the car languish in his garage he has decided to sell her in the hopes that she will go to a good home and be driven more regularly. The car has had very few miles put on it in the past several years but has still been looked after and kept in our customer's garage. This car is very interesting as it was a transitional car built 11/74, during the time when they went from chrome bumpers to rubber. While this car has the rubber bumpers, it still retains the factory twin SU carburetors and no catalytic converter (the 1974 set up). It also has an oil cooler fitted by the factory. Lastly, this car retained the simpler wiring harness than that of the 1975 and up cars. Simply lower the front and rear suspension to the earlier specs and add a front sway bar and you would have the same handling as the earlier cars along with the original twin SUs and oil cooler. Recent work (miles wise) includes a clutch done by us. At that time the gearbox was treated to all new seals, a new clutch kit, all new mounts and new U-joints. Also. the car has a new galvanized fuel tank, a relatively recent new SU fuel pump, a recent carburetor rebuild and a fresh oil and filter change. This car starts right up, has very good oil pressure, drives quite well, shifts smoothly, does not burn oil and has a very nice drive train. The four speed gearbox shifts crisply and the clutch engages better than most MGBs out there. The brakes stop sure and even. The Black exterior paint is very presentable but not perfect and would be considered a very nice driver quality car. There is very little rust, save a bit starting at the front floor boards that could easily be treated and repaired (see pictures). This car has a good usable top with clear windows and a good fit. It has one tear that would need to be patched but really would not be an issue if the car were garaged. The interior is in good condition and very usable. All the gauges work well except for the fuel gauge which needs a new sending unit (if you ground the hot wire at the unit the gauge climbs normally). All the light work well and the wiring system is in good condition. We have posted the maximum number of pictures that Ebay allows so here is a link to even more. Check back as we will add even more as time allows:http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy356/Speedwell1/MGB/ This car is an "arrive and drive" car. You can leave your trailer at home. The usual caveats apply (bring a tool bag just in case) but she runs cool and should motor anywhere you want to go.We used the supersize pictures so you can see this car as well as possible but test drives and personal inspections are always welcome. Just email us with your contact information to make arrangements. Also, if there are any specific pictures you would like to see, please send you request along with your email address. Thanks for looking! On Mar-30-12 at 05:27:35 PDT, seller added the following information: The odometer reads 40,272 but the mileage is 140,272 as the odometer has gone beyond it's limits (37 year old car). The car has a clear Georgia title and is currently registered and insured. On Mar-31-12 at 07:16:27 PDT, seller added the following information: 20 more pictures added to the photo-bucket link this morning!
