Vehicle Detail
1985 Lamborghini Jalpa 3.5 VIN. Ebay won't let me enter the VIN above...it is ZA9J00000FLA12227 412 units built (1981-89). I bought it sight unseen on ebay three and a half years ago and have enjoyed every minute of ownership. I have a ‘list’ of vehicles that I would like to own/drive at some point in my life and a Jalpa was on my list. Sadly, I can’t afford to keep all the vehicles on this list, and need to sell this one to make some room and free up funds for the next one. The Jalpa is even rarer than the Countach, less expensive to maintain (well, take that for what it is. It’s still a Lamborghini, not a Ford or Toyota). It is far more drivable in the city and in traffic than a Countach. You can actually see out the sides and back, and the roof comes off. Body – The original owner blew the engine and sold the car. A subsequent owner did not like the factory color combo (Black on Tan)…so while the drivetrain was out being rebuilt, he had the body bead blasted to bare metal and repainted Lamborghini bright white. Body was and is rust free and has no dents or dings in it. There are a few small stone chips in the front valance and a small scratch or two...but honestly, the body is as close to what I would call a 10 as can be. I also have a rare dealer installed Gemballa rear wing for the car, it was removed and the holes filled, but it will be included with the car. Front and Rear bumpers are also filled and painted body color. All lenses are in excellent shape and all lights and electrical work, including the wipers. Mechanical – Motor has been fully rebuilt by the previous owner, using custom stainless steel exhaust valves (common failure on Jalpa’s). Has MSD ignition, and custom hollowed ceramic coated exhaust that sounds fantastic. Transmission shifts smooth through all gates, reverse included. Occasionally if I stop with the car in second gear it is difficult to get it out until moving, not completely sure why but may need new bushings. Clutch operates well, no issues (new two years ago). Brakes I would call adequate, they work fine…but I never really thought these cars had enough brakes for their weight/power, I would probably add a brake booster or upgrade them if I was keeping the car. The car does not overheat or run hot and is even ok to idle along in traffic without complaining. There are a few small oil leaks, but nothing worrysome. I am pretty sure these cars leaked oil from the factory. Fuel hoses are now braided stainless, much nicer (and safer) than factory ones. Also have replaced the battery (interstate), alternator, and had the starter rebuilt in the past 18 months. Vehicle does need new cables and hoses for heater and air conditioning; they are currently disconnected and not operating. There is also a leak on the high pressure hose for A/C (system leaks down every 3 months or so). Interior – Original Tan interior was replaced/redyed white to match the exterior, and they did a really good job overall. The seats look excellent, as do the door panels. If you really look, you can tell that the console and lower dash have been dyed but it is a good enough job that it works. Carpets were replaced and I also bought new custom logo’d floor mats. Custom williams F1 steering wheel, with Lambo center. Alpine CD faceplate stereo. Power window’s work, but as with most Italian cars of the era they are very slow. Other – I have the original set of Campognolo wheels (in great shape) as shown, on the car are custom made 17” Compomotives. Tires are about 80% all around. I have records/receipts from my ownership over the last three years but that’s about it as the previous owner owned auto dealerships and his guys did most of the work. The car has British Columbia collector vehicle license plates which are not easy to qualify for as the vehicle must be deemed in excellent and original condition all around. As I previously mention, this car is a ton of fun and draws more attention than you can imagine, it definitely is not for the shy. It is one of the nicest cars I have owned. This is a great investment as well as a worthy purchase. Having said that…If you are buying this car for daily use, you are crazy. If you are selling your wifes’s Subaru and think she can pick up your kids at school daily you are even crazier. This is a weekend cruiser and a car show participant. These are real Lamborghinis and not Audi powered, German engineered marvels. I am not super excited to be selling it to be perfectly honest, but unfortunately I am not a multi-millionaire and cannot have all the cars I like at one time. I have set the reserve price at what I feel is very fair and will not disclose it. I have around 100 more photos of the vehicle and would be happy to forward onto anyone interested...as well I will be on email and do my best to promptly answer any questions. The vehicle is also available for anyone who wants to view it in person. I have bought and sold vehicles over ebay both in Canada and the US and have always found the experience to be a good one, I hoping to continue that. I have described the vehicle honestly and am more than willing to answer any questions; I want the new owner to enjoy it as much as I have. Please do not bid if you do not have the funds to purchase, remember that your bid is a binding contract. I require a deposit via Paypal at auction close (or with the buy it now option), with the balance being due in full within the following 7 days. I accept cash, or certified cheque/bank draft. The vehicle needs to be picked up within 15 days of Auction close unless otherwise pre-arranged with me. If bidding in the US, I am willing to drop off at the Peace Arch Canada/US border crossing (Canadian side), and will also make myself available if the vehicle is to be picked up at my home. The vehicle was originally sold in the US, so re-importation should not be an issue. All costs associated with shipping/delivery of the vehicle are the responsibility of the buyer. Cheers and happy bidding, Brian
