Meet Louise, my 2002 VW Jetta GL TDI. I purchased Louise in October 2003 second-hand from Dover VW in Dover, Delaware. Louise had approximately 16,000 miles on the odometer when I purchased her, and she came to Dover VW from her first owner as a trade on a new Audi A4. Louise has been my primary drive since 2003, although I've had other vehicles in my personal fleet. The time has now come to consolidate, and Louise must leave me. I have all mechanical records on Louise from 16,000 miles onward (when she came under my ownership), and have had most major services performed at one of three VW dealerships: Dover VW in Dover, Delaware, Garnet VW in Chadds Ford, PA, and Smith VW in Wilmington, Delaware. While under my ownership, Louise has not been involved in any major accidents, although she has visited the body shop on three occasions: Once in February 2007 when I dislodged the front bumper cover on a small snowbank in my driveway; once after December 2009 when someone in a supermarket parking lot backed into my front grille and cracked the grille vanes, and one other visit to the body shop to repair various dings, dents and paint chips. THE GOOD: Timing belts: I have changed the timing belts (three belt changes over the history of the car's life) ahead of the odometer schedules for Louise. The last timing belt service was at 206,000 in early 2011. She also has new tires (less than 15K) and brakes. Oil changes have been regular at 5000 miles. Regular and consistent city mpg at 44-46; highway mpg at or above 50, and still going strong. I have also installed an HD radio (Best Buy) and added a rear deck spoiler (2006); the rear deck spoiler is glue-stripped to the rear deck (like the old BMW M series from the 1980s). Summers, I have used a B20 diesel fuel blend with no problems; winters, I reverted to 15 ULSD diesel fuel. THE BAD: Louise is starting to make overtures that there may be a clutch change in her future; the noise isn't too bad now and is sporadic, but it sounds like the pressure plate might be starting to protest (I am, however, no mechanic). The front bumper cover is a slight off-white (almost looks like the base color was red), but it isn't noticeable unless you have a super-critical eye, or the car is parked next to pristine white snow (the bumper cover was changed when I had the grille vanes replaced, and the body shop didn't quite color match the white). Other annoyances include a crack in the plastic on the right exterior rearview mirror; surface paint chips on the hood (and two that have surface rust), the leading edge of the roofline, and the door guards; a rear bumper cover that has visible signs of exterior wear; a right front passenger door window that may need new molding (the wind noise is more pronounced than normal); a burn mark in the plastic from the first driver on the inside driver door panel; no tears on the interior seat fabric, although the fabric is showing dirt wear; and a worn leather cover for the manual gearshift. I'm happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about maintenance and the maintenance records in my possession. My requirement is a face-to-face transfer of the vehicle and paperwork; I will not ship the vehicle. I'm happy to deliver Louise to the following airports: Philadelphia (PHL), Baltimore-Washington (BWI), Newark Liberty (EWR) or the vehicle's location in Delaware at one of the local DMV stations (New Castle County preferably). Please note that Delaware requires me to hand back the hard license plate; please consult your local DMV to obtain a temporary tag or temporary transit pass to take the vehicle back to your home state.
