Vehicle Detail

Note, this is a No Reserve Auction! Shown here is our '95 BMW 540i sport sedan in nice condition and with low miles! It runs excellently, and is a real collector's item as it features the very rare 6-Speed manual transmission (one of only 1,300 built)! Furthermore, a Dinan type performance chip was installed on the engine's computer, taking the 32-Valve, overhead-cam, 4-liter V8 motor from factory 285 horsepower up to a respectable 310 horsepower! This thing REALLY moves! These engines have fantastic longevity, and this one still has LOTS of life left in it. Basically, BMW was forced to replace all of them under factory warranty recall due to our cheap American gasoline pitting out the cylinder walls of the engines, so these cars got treated to new engines part-way through their lifespan which a bonus. This one's tight with excellent compression and no extra noises (ticks or knocks) whatsoever... just quiet, smooth and very powerful, and at the same time efficient on fuel economy 27mpg on the highway (not bad for a car that weighs a 3,700 pounds)... That's Toyota Camry gas-mileage territory, but this thing can go WAY faster, and looks much better doing it (plus front-wheel-drive is for pansies). Being equipped with 6-speed helps it achieve these fuel mpg figures due to its deep overdrive gear ratio (I don't just rely on the meter on the dash, we divide the gallons used by the miles driven each and every fill-up). You can get the best of both worlds with this car! It's the most perfect balance between high-performance, and good fuel-economy that I've ever experienced in any automobile. The clutch is new, and operates very smoothly, with no chatter or slippage whatsoever I should add. Don't be scared off by the rear-wheel-drive, these cars chew right through the snow as long as you have a decent set of tires in the winter (there's an on-board traction-control system which really helps them get great traction on slippery ground, yet can be dissabled by the push of a button if you wanna do a burn-out on dry pavement or something). Read on... There are driver & passenger heated power leather seats (switch knobs are missing, but they do still work), power windows, electric sunroof (no leaks), power heated mirrors, dual-climate-controls, trip meter, miles-per-gallon gauge, alarm-system and more. Mechanically, the car is in very good condition, and doesn't burn any oil (though the valve-cover gaskets do seep a little if you drive it hard). They're not difficult or expensive to replace, but we just haven't gotten around to doing it, as the amount of oil leakage is negligible. We've used this car as a daily driver since purchasing it in 2009, and I would trust the car to be taken on a road trip anywhere on the Continent at a moment's notice. You could fly out, and drive it home. When we replaced the battery in the Fall, the am/fm casette deck reset and won't play until a code is obtained from a BMW dealership (grrr!). It was working fine before that though, (I think there are also still some CDs in the 6-disk changer in the trunk). Probably the better thing to do would be to throw out that factory tape deck and put in a modern aftermarket head-unit for your tunes. The cruise-control works great. All power windows roll up and down smoothly just as they should. All the glass is good, but there is one very tiny chip in the windshield about the size of a pea that should be filled before it spreads. We have a clear epoxy suction-cup kit to do this, and may just take care of it before the auction's over for the next owner if I get the chance. Aesthetically, it looks good for the most part, but there are scuffs, dings & chips to the paint here and there (what one would reasonably expect for a used car), and a crack on the bottom right corner of the rear bumper from hooking it on an object in the yard. There are no rust holes on the body, but a couple spots where there's a bit of surface rust bubbling on the bottoms of the doors & such. Nothing serious. A couple of the exterior pieces of trim are letting loose, but I didn't have the heart to drill a screw through them, so we left them the way they are (they just need the factory little plastic clips to snap back into place, which can be ordered through BMW). The interior is in very nice condition with no cracks on the dash, or tears in the seats or carpet, however there are a couple light stains on the back seat leather. The driver's seat has very little wear. We've always maintained this car regularly with oil changes, etc. And since owning it have put in a brand-new heater-core, and brand-new radiator, as well as water-pump, belts and hoses. We had it aligned at a couple different shops, but I don't think they knew what they were doing (got a refund from the Midas that did the first one). These cars are so designed, that they require a precise amount of weights to be placed on the floorboards in the front and rear passenger compartments, as well as 47lbs inside the trunk (ridiculous). At any rate, we got it to the point where the alignment is pretty liveable (but could be better), so I'd recommend finding a good shop that has experience with German cars to get it set absolutely correct. Other than these few issues, the car runs, drives, and stops great. It has 4-wheel disc brakes with new pads and rotors, and corners/handles phenominally...better than any other car we've ever owned. Whenever I let my friends who own American & Japanese cars drive a BMW, they are absolutely amazed & impressed at the difference! German cars are engineered with top quality, form, fit and finish...unsurpassed (I dare say) by cars from any other region in the World! BMWs are built much more solidly than most vehicles, with a super rigid chassis and heafty, solid doors, so they're very safe cars. I read once that 5-series BMWs have an owner-loyalty club which is unsurpassed by any other car make/model in the world, and I can understand why...They're really great cars! We have owned 6 BMWs now, and they always fire right up even in the dead of Winter when it's 20 below zero outside! This car has never failed to start for us even once, and is the most dependable vehicle we've ever owned. I've started out the bidding at a very fair price, so don't miss out on this opportunity to own a wonderful (rare & collectable) European sports-sedan with a super-fun to drive 6-speed manual transmission, for a real bargain! For what it's worth, I checked and: Kelly Blue Book states that in excellent condition, this car with these options is worth $5960.00, in good condition $5535.00, and in fair condition, $4860. According to their condition standards, I would say that this car is in good condition. If you'd like to come inspect the car in person, we welcome anyone to do that, or else send a local mechanic to come check it over for your peace-of-mind. Thanks for looking. If you have any further questions, you may call my husband, Jason who can give you any further information that you may need. (641) 512-5229 cell. Thanks for coming to check out this auction for a great deal on a great car! We have no reason to sell it, other than the fact that we simply don't need as many cars as we currently own & drive. If it doesn't sell on eBay; that's okay with us; as we love this car, but if you'd like to own it, please make sure to get your bid in with adequate time before the auction ends so as not to miss out!
