Vehicle Detail

Hi. Up for auction is my 1975 BMW 2002. This car has been a project of mine since I purchased it in 2008 but its time to move onto the next project. The 2002 was originally purchased in Austin Texas and from what I can tell has spent most of its life in the South. It came to Athens, GA in the mid-'90's and found its way parked next to a friend's house with a blown head gasket. Purchased in fall of '08 running on 3 cylinders and covered in several coats of house paint (see pictures), I set about getting it back on the road and started with a top-end engine rebuild. A new German timing chain, head gasket and a refurbished head were installed along with a new water pump and ignition system. Next, I installed new motor mounts and a new muffler. The entire front suspension was removed, checked and re-installed with polyurethane bushings, new H&R springs that brought it down by 1-3/4 inches, and new Sachs shocks. The rear suspension was also re-done with matching H&R springs and Sachs shocks. All soft brake lines were replaced, new front rotors, pads and wheel bearings installed, and new rear brake cylinders were installed. The engine pulls strong and for the last year I've used it in various vintage car rallies. The odometer does not function but since the rebuild and finishing the project I've put about 5000 miles on the car. Compression numbers are as follows: Cylinder 1 - 120psi, Cylinder 2 - 120psi, Cylinder 3 - 125psi, Cylinder 4 - 125psi. Next, I started work on the body. The various coats of house paint were removed and the body was taken down to bare metal. Being a Southern car and covered in thick paint actually did the body well. There was very little rust to deal with anywhere in the body and the rockers were sound. The only rust found was a pea sized hole in the driver's side floor pan (pictured and still needs to be fixed.) I then chose to have it sprayed in Colorado Orange with a black hood, trunk and shoulder lines to replicate the Alpina race colors of the early 70's. The paint is good for a driver but not concourse quality. There are a few blemishes (pictured in the below link), including under the hood on the top of the passenger side fender, underneath the trunk lid on the driver's side, a paint crack at the front passenger side rain gutter and some deformation next to the driver's side fog light. When the car was painted a new headliner was installed along with new rubber seals for the front, rear and side windows. The rest of the interior is in largely original shape. The dash has some cracks as does the top of the rear bench seat. There are a couple tears in the passenger seat and a small cut in the driver's (pictured.) The carpet could stand to be replaced as the color has faded and the center consul has been removed. The car currently wears a set of BMW Bottle Cap 14" wheels. The wheels are in great shape (no curb rash), but it will need tires if you plan to drive it a long distance (see pictures at the below link.) I'll be happy to assist with the logistics of getting new tires if needed. This is a great driver and a fun car to rally. It certainly garners a lot of attention. More pictures can be found here: https://sites.google.com/site/thevintagewerks/-75-bmw-2002 There is no title so the car will be sold with a bill of sale. Please e-mail me with any questions or to set up a time to look at the car. Thanks and happy bidding!
