Vehicle Detail

’64 Thunderbird Landau This is a nice car that was in a collection of cars 15 cars for 27 years. The car was owned by an elderly gentleman and was sold off after his entering a nursing home. It was originally owned by a local business man that I knew who has since passed away. He sold the car in June of 1985 into the collection of this gentleman. I purchased three of his cars including one I had 27 years ago. I am a GM collector and not so familiar with T-Birds. It is outside of my scope and have too many other cars to give attention to this one. Other than tires and service, it is pretty much as I purchased it. Very Nice. Note: This is a long detailed description and one I would appreciate if looking to buy a car here. If you will read it all, I think you will be well informed of the car’s condition. Miles are 02,XXX. I’m sure this is 102,000 on a very well cared for car. Very Solid Car. Equipment -390 V8 -Automatic Transmission -AM/FM Stereo -Power Steering and Brakes -Air Conditioning - A new A/C belt is in the trunk. I had it installed with the intentions of having the air charged. Though it was taking the charge, the compressor was noisy and I elected not to go any farther with it. I had the belt removed. With an oil charge and service, it may be fine. The climate control seems to be functional, though I think it will need a new heater control valve. It has no leaks, but I think it is stuck. -Tilt Away Steering Wheel- Works great and the bushing in the column is good. It starts with no issues. -Factory Pagoda Green (Turquois Blue) It is the correct color. -Vinyl Top with Landau Bars (Original White) -Dual Exhaust -Power Seat- Works -Power Windows – The rear windows don’t work and the front windows are intermittent. If this were a GM car, I might have gotten into this. It appears to me that it needs new switches or maybe just a new relay. I think this is a minor issue. Vehicle Condition The car recently passed Texas safety inspection. Mechanical -Motor The original 390 motor is in great shape. It appears to have been well cared for. It starts right up (and with the automatic choke, which works great) when it is cold. There are no major leaks and no knocking. The compression is 150 to 155 psi all the way around. It is very solid. I do think that the carburetor will need to be rebuilt, though it is clean and fuels well. It is leaking just enough vacuum through the top and base gasket to cause the car to idle a (little) rough and draw from the brake booster just a little also, though the booster does work. This car has been driven less than 300 miles in 27 years. It needs to be driven and is doing very well. The more it is driven, the better it runs. The motor has been completely serviced, including tune up, oil change (with ZZDP added), air filter and PCV valve. Transmission Shifts smooth and sure, just as it should, very solid and clean fluid. Brakes The brakes are excellent. The shoes are in great condition. The brake lines, hoses, wheel and master cylinders have all been replaced. Suspension and Rear End The suspension appears to be very solid. It sits up as it should. The car came with N.O.S. MotorCraft front shocks still in the box and I had them installed. One of the A frame bushings on the driver side is a little squeaky, but seems to still be good. There is no slack or slop in the front end suspension or steering…solid. The driveshaft and rear end are also solid. A new pinion seal was installed. Exhaust The dual exhaust is excellent with no leaks and is stock. Tires All four tires are new radials. The spare is an older bias ply and is in good shape. Paint The paint shines very nicely. It has had one repaint in 1983 with RM Lacquer. I know this because I remember when the original owner had the car painted. It does have lacquer checking in places, but does not detract from the overall stunning beauty of the car. Body The body is solid with no apparent rust issues. This has always been a Texas car. There are some minor dings (no dents) here and there as might be expected, but again, nothing that detracts from the beauty of the car. Floors, Trunk Pan & Rocker Panels These are very solid with minor repairs made probably back in ’83, when the car was painted. These are on the passenger front and a place on the right side of the trunk floor by the tank strap. It is all still solid and I see no issues otherwise. I don’t see these becoming an issue. I would think that if it were going to be so, they would be showing up by now. The rest of the underside is excellent also. Chrome The chrome overall is nice. The front bumper is excellent and the rear bumper is very nice with the biggest issue being a minor ding in the center, visible in the photos. There is some minor pitting around the door vent window insides. None of this pulls away from the beauty of the car. Rubber The door rubber is original and needs to be replaced. Otherwise the rubber is nice. Interior The interior is excellent with one loose seam on the drivers seat approximately 2 inches long, easy fix. Other than this, the dash, instrument panel, console, arm rest, headliner, carpet and door panels are all excellent. They are clean and not faded. The car has always been inside. Vinyl Top Excellent, with two small dings to the right of center, not very noticeable, but feel the need to state them. Glass All glass is excellent. Summary This is a clean, well kept, original unrestored car with one repaint. It drives great and is very beautiful. In my opinion, this car can be driven to where you want to go with it. This will have to be your decision as with old cars, things can go wrong. I think there is a lot of enjoyment to be had here. I will be glad to pick you up at the Jack Brooks Airport in Beaumont. Feel free to come see the car in advance of auction end if you wish. I feel that I have probably made the car sound worse than it is, but want everything out front with you. It is all just minor TLC and the most important things are in order. I have done my best to describe it all as I see it. Contact If you have questions and would like to discuss the car, please call me at (409-550-1644) I do have some health issues, so please if you don't get an answer, leave a message and I will call you back as soon as possible.
