Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1988 GMC Safari Minivan. It's a panel van so it has no rear side windows. I bought it for the old school stereo system back in 2007. I've driven it about 50 miles total since I bought it and I put the 20s on it Monday hoping the look would inspire me. It's a cool van. I removed the majority of the stereo system a couple years ago and couldn't decide how to rebuild it. I have done many full-on builds but this one screams SPL vehicle.. and I just don't have the desire for an SPL vehicle anymore. There are no rear interior panels and no carpet behind the wheel wells. Here is what's left of the stereo electronics; Both door build outs with four beefy 4ohm no-name 8s in each. One has a dent in the dust cap. They all work perfect. The drivers buildout is not installed right now. {I removed it to replace the door handle} The lower portion of the doors have huge areas cut out to fit the big motors of the 8s. All eight 8" woofers are included. It has a high output alternator but I am unsure who made it. There is a heavy 2/0 100% copper power cable running front to back. I installed a Clarion DVD player in the center console and there are grey sun visors with video screens in them. There are three sets of Monster Cable RCAs run from the DVD player to the rear cargo area. The speaker wiring is monstercable also but it's home theater wiring with huge insulation. I installed a CrimeStopper alarm system on it. it has remote start, keyless entry, and a 2-way communication LCD display keyfob. [I was an MECP certified installed back in 1995/1996] The seats are black leather and are from a 2004 Acura MDX. The drivers seat is mounted but not wired in electrically. The passengers seat is not mounted or wired. The rear seat is not mounted either. The dash has an area cut out of the center. I assume they had more speakers there but they weren't there when I bought it. I bought the tires and wheels new a few years ago. They are mounted with 1" wheel adapters because the center bore of the van was larger than the wheels. They do look good spaced out with the adapters. It gives the van a 2" wider stance. Also, the tires are very wide. [almost 10"] The paint shines but it's not perfect. There is a dent on the passengers rear wheel arch and two dents on the right rear door. The ground effects are urethane and are not attached well. There are screws in them to hold them on. I purchased replacement headlights which are blue glass and matching blue rectangle fog lights for the air dam. They are not installed but they'll come with it. There is a Lund Moon visor with white LED lights and clear covers on it. The van has dual exhaust. I bought it this way. It's quiet but throaty. The exhaust is installed well and is in excellent condition. This van has spent most of it's life in storage, dry, clean, humidity controlled storage. There is really no rust to speak of on the undercarriage, and absolutely no rust on the outside. The suspension is clean. The rear shock absorbers were changed to Monroe air shocks by the original owner to handle the heavy sound system enclosure which was in it. You can buy this van and drive it anywhere. It's ready to go. But it's also a project vehicle. It really needs an owner who wants to make it loud again. I have registered and insured it every year even though I never drove it. [the registration is up to date] Ignore the date on the cardboard in the pictures.. it's just an old piece of cardboard. These pictures were all taken last Monday- 2/20/12. here are some picture of the rear of it after I removed the system. The Optima Yellow top batteries are not included. The battery shelves are still in it though. The subwoofers are not included.
