This vehicle was an Avis rental car that was issued a salvage title after sustaining some water damage. The car has been completely checked out, from the undercarriage underneath, under the trunk floor, up under the seats and up into the dash, and there is no evidence of any damage. To err on the side of caution, some companies will total out a vehicle if water reaches just to the bottom of the floor pan or door sills. This is especially true with rental cars when the renters insurance is covering the vehicle. I am fully disclosing that this car has salvage history, (although not all other sellers do), which is why it’s priced many thousands below other Cruze models listed here, even below the 2011’s! Eventually whenever YOU sell the vehicle let your conscience be your guide as to disclosing that information. Don’t worry too much about the history, remember, you are buying a car, not a piece of paper. Also keep in mind when it comes time to sell it, salvage history on an older vehicle is not as significant as on a late model one, so if you keep the car for 3 years, 5 years or over 10 more years, an older vehicle with salvage history is only worth slightly less than one without it. This auction is for a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze LT sedan finished in Summit White with the Medium Titanium interior. It’s powered by a turbocharged 1.4 liter dual overhead cam 16-valve Ecotec engine that has received numerous rave reviews by engineers and the automotive press for it’s high power output, excellent economy and inherent smoothness. With a turbocharger, the Cruze LT engine gets better gas mileage than the base LS model that has a 1.8L non-turbo motor, while putting out the same horsepower and even 20 percent more torque. This engine features a cast iron block for maximum durability, chain-driven cams for reduced maintenance (the 1.8L engine in the LS has a timing belt that must be replaced periodically), variable valve timing for maximum power output at all engine speeds, an aluminum cylinder head for reduced weight and greater heat dissipation and an electronically controlled thermostat combined with an integrated oil cooler to keep the engine operating at it’s peak efficiency. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Driver Shift Control (DSC®). This transmission has low first and second gears that provide brisk acceleration, while the high top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent gas mileage. With Driver Shift Control you can move the shifter to the left and then tap it up or down to shift the transmission like a manual for more control on winding roads and provide greater power and acceleration for passing maneuvers. Integrated into the transmission is an all-season Traction Control System (TCS®) which helps to get you through ice and snow covered roads with ease, and the StabiliTrak® system which is an advanced electronic stability program (ESP) that helps the car stay on the road through curves and abrupt maneuvers. Rounding out the Cruze powertrain is a chassis made to smooth out your daily commute while still having fun on twisting roads. Start off with a MacPherson strut independent front suspension, Watts Z-link rear suspension and 16 inch tires. Add rack and pinion Electric Power Steering (EPS) for precise road feel, and a stiffer chassis design than many other small vehicles, and you have a car that is quicker, faster and handles better than many others in it’s class. The styling of the Chevy Cruze features clean highly sculpted lines and distinct angles while adding bold and aggressive elements to form a beautiful modern design. A quick walk around the car reveals how the Cruze is one of the most stylish vehicles ever created in the compact class of automobiles. Borrowed from the Corvette, it’s twin-cockpit design is both functional and beautiful to look at. Get in and sit down in a bucket seat that feels supportive yet comfortable for a 12 hour drive. Adjust the seat back to the perfect driving position with the recline lever and raise or lower the seat with the height adjustment lever. Then grab the thick padded wheel and adjust the tilt steering column to achieve complete driving control. Notice how the steering wheel mounted cruise control switches are just a fingertip away. Next, look ahead at the two-tone ebony/grey dashboard that flows seamlessly into the door panels. The instrument cluster is trimmed with titanium bezels and is backlit with light-emitting diode (LED) technology that provides a cool-blue illumination of the analog gauges and a Driver Information Center (DIC) displays vital functions and warnings. It has a beautiful dent-free body and the paint was just waxed with Meguiar’s Ultimate Synthetic wax for a high gloss shine. Even both the front and also the back sides of the wheels have been cleaned and waxed to look terrific! There is no evidence that it was ever in any accidents. The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent upholstery, carpet, dashboard and door panels with no significant signs of wear. The car doesn‘t look like it was smoked in, in fact, it’s not even equipped with a lighter. The trunk looks like it was hardly ever used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. Mechanically it runs and drives excellent. The engine runs strong and feels smooth both at idle, while accelerating and throughout the cruising range. The steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows ice cold. It has the original set of premium Firestone tires that are like new. The spare tire doesn’t look to have ever been used. The car has been checked underneath and shows no signs of water damage. The Chevy Cruze LT is as economical to drive, as it is to maintain. While the EPA highway mileage rating is 38 MPG, those who drive with restraint have been known to raise that figure to around 50 MPG at steady highway speeds. And most systems have low or reduced maintenance components. For example, instead of a timing belt that needs periodic replacement, the 1.4L engine uses a steel timing chain that lasts for the life of the engine. It has hydraulic valve lifters that never need adjusting unlike some cars that need regular valve adjustments. It uses an oil-life monitor system that calculates optimum oil change intervals based on miles driven and driving conditions. A car that is driven in the city with frequent starts and stops requires more frequent oil changes than a highway driven car which under optimum conditions may go 10,000 miles between changes. It uses platinum tipped spark plugs and an advanced specification transmission fluid, both of which only need to be changed every 97,500 miles, extended life coolant with a 150,000 mile service interval, and a fuel filter that only needs replacement if the pump is replaced. Also, much of the exhaust system is stainless steel and should last the life of the car. While the Cruze doesn’t cost much to operate, it’s still loaded with all the safety features found in more expensive cars. To avoid crashes in the first place, the Cruze has 4-wheel Anti-Lock Brakes, StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System, an All-Season Traction Control System (TCS), daytime running lamps and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). If a collision is unavoidable, the Cruze is equipped with numerous active systems to minimize injuries. It has a class leading ten airbags that cushion impacts, including two front airbags, two side airbags, four head curtain airbags, and the latest technology with two knee airbags that help submarining injuries. In addition, there are passive crush zones and the cabin is reinforced with high-strength steel throughout. It could be a two or three years before that happens, so if you’ve always wanted a Cruze but thought you just didn’t quite have enough funds to purchase one, this car may just have your name on it. In other words, it’s going to take another two or three years before the 2011 and 2012 Cruse cars that you are looking at now for $18-22,000 depreciate down to the price of this Cruze. So why wait that long? In 2 or 3 years their prices will be the same as mine is anyway, right now, so you might as well own and enjoy it right now! The NADA Blue Book retail price on a 2011 Cruze LT similarly equipped without salvage history is nearly $20,000! (They don’t have used values on 2012 models yet.) If you are looking for a nice Cruze in excellent condition at a low price, then this car is hard to beat. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either.
