Vehicle Detail

I hate to sell this beast, but I can't find any more excuses to keep it. We got an 04 Odyssey, and I'm not getting out in the woods much since my baby boy has been born. This thing was left sitting by the previous owner for more than 8 years. Unfortunately rats got in it and chewed up some of the wiring, but he had it rewired by a mechanic and I've experienced no electrical difficulties other than the radio stopped working. The low gas light doesn't come on anymore, but I think that is just a bulb because it worked when I bought it. The fuel gauge only shows the last quarter tank, it shows empty when its completely full, and then goes up to a quarter when the tank gets to a quarter, and is accurate from there. I had some trouble with the van getting a little hot even after I had the radiator recored but I finally solved it completely by taking out the thermostat. Unfortunately that also means it doesn't get hot enough anymore for the heat to work. It did work when the van was running at operating temp. It was a toyota thermostat, but I put it in when the coolant was still in pretty bad shape, and it had been run a little hot, so maybe thats why it went bad. Its also possible that the van needs a new water pump. The pump is extremely accessible since I removed the original fan and fan shroud and replaced with the electric one. I took the pump out once and looked at it and thought it was fine, but who knows. An aftermarket is only $35 but some parts in this van you have to run toyota, I'm not sure if the pump is that way or not. The thermostat definitely has to be toyota or it won't work right. Its around $25 from the dealer. The A/C is completely shot, and I removed the evaporator, but it will come with the van if you want it. The 4wd works quite well, and it has surprised me some of the places it will go. The last time I had it out I had a little trouble with the auto locking hubs popping out after a hard left turn, so not sure what the deal is with that. Also, I've had the transmission filter clogged on me once and almost clogged on me a second time but I heard it whining like it did the first time so I changed it before it started slipping. It drives perfectly after it has been changed, you would never know that had happened if I didn't mention it because it drives and shifts so nice but I just feel like I should say something so that if it happens again you'll know that all you have to do is change the filter. The second time I changed it it only took me an hour and a half, so its not a huge job. In my attempts to get it to quit running hot I installed a transmission cooler and a heater core in the bumper (see pictures). The heater core is no longer necessary since I removed the thermostat, but I'm too lazy to take it out. There is a little exhaust leak around the catalytic converter because I took it off for a while and it didn't seal perfectly when I put it back on. The long and short of it is that I feel very confident that this van will take you wherever you need to go. I bought 5 new tires for it when I bought it 2 years ago, and have only gone less than 10K on them. The "hose of death" has been replaced. It has an aftermarket alternator as of about 6 months ago. I replaced the air intake hose, the throttle position sensor, one of the fusible links, and that's all I can think of right now. I would literally hop in it today and drive it to California, without expecting any problems except for worst case scenario having to change the transmission filter if it started whining at me again. I think that issue is related to the van overheating and the transmission then getting a little to hot, but I can't be sure about that. I want to say again, since I've taken out the thermostat, it does not come even close to overheating. The seats are in excellent condition overall. The middle captain chair a a tear in the side and its missing a button, other than that the seats look great. There are some stains on the carpet. They are large but not extreme in their color. Pretty clean overall inside. Never smoked in from what I can tell. Well, that's all I can think of right now. I bought this thing for $1250 and have put at least $1500 in it and countless hours of time, so you could come out handily depending on what it gets bid up to. I have a hard time letting it go, but can't justify keeping it if I basically never use it. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking! BTW, just added picture of a camping setup I had with all the seats in! The middle captains chairs rotate and can lay all the way down. I set a board across the middle chair and back seat to create a bed. Worked nicely, and the board can fit between the two captains chairs when not in use so that the seats are accessible. On Feb-08-12 at 17:39:12 PST, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention that the check oil level light stays on almost all the time, even when the oil level is completely full, and that the van does use or leak just a little oil. Can't tell you how much but doesn't seem like much at all. Wanted to mention also that as far as I can tell the head gasket is in great shape. No white exhaust, no bubbles even when it was running a little warm, and now that the thermostat is out it never even reaches temp unless you go up a very long hill in the back country at about 20 mph. Then you just turn the fan on and its good to go. I had another one of these vans that did have a headgasket problem, and it ran much hotter and shot coolant out the overflow even with the thermostat out, so I'm quite certain everything is great as far as this head gasket goes.
