Vehicle Detail
I picked up this 1965 Honda CL77 from the second owner who bought it in 1968. The bike has 6275 miles on the odometer and the owner assured me that this was the actual mileage. Frame # CL77 - 1002098Engine # CL77E- 1002118 I bought the bike to get back on the road and use for a vintage rider. Alas, another deal has come up and I found a fantastic CB77 with most of the factory cyb parts mounted. It is ready for AHRMA racing and is ready for me to ride as soon as I get it from my friend. With the CB77 showing up, I no longer have the motivation to work on the scrambler. The bike has all the original parts on it including exhaust baffles, seat, original badges, chain guard, front fender and brace and all other parts. The bike was painted the current color by the original owner and was this color when the second owner bought it. The bike was last ridden in 1975 and was parked in the owners garage and not moved or touched in 40+ years. The garage is located on the California Central Coast and as such the bike has suffered from moisture in the air. The bike probablylooks better in the photos than it really is. There is not a single part on the bike that does not show wear or change from being ridden or sitting for so long in storage. THE ENGINE IS STUCK, IT DOES NOT TURN OVER. I squirted some penetrating oil in the cylinders and let is set for a couple days, then tried to get the engine free by rocking it back in forth while in gear. No luck, but I was not too concerned and did not want to get too aggressive. To me this is not a big deal since I would have pulled the top end off anyway to do the valves and install new rings on the pistons anyway. I could part out this bike and make good money on it. The fender, seat, tank and other parts would sell quickly, but I would rather pass the bike on to someone else. I DO NOT HAVE A TITLE FOR THE BIKE, BILL OF SALE ONLY. The bike was last registered in 1975. It has been out of the CA DMV system for 4 decades. The bike is going to be listed on a club website and locally so I reserve the right to end the auction if it sells elsewhere. The seat has some cracks that have a fresh application of black duct tape. The chrome trim is really nice, a little weathered, but it is not dented that I can see and should be an excellent piece. The seat pan is good, foam feels OK. All it needs is a new cover. The paint is fair, but I don't like the bronze color and would repaint the thing the proper silver anyway. The tank has a small dent on the right front. The tank is not rusty inside, but there is some residue from the old gas. Not tar, but still there. A flush should take care of it. I do not think the tank needs a liner. Looks too good for that. The Carbs will need kits and rebuild. Air cleaners are old but serviceable I suppose. Air tubes are stiff, but not cracked and useable. The chain guard has been repaired where it attaches at the rear. Surprise, surprise! They ALL crack there. There are some other minor flaws with the chain guard, but it is an easy fix. The rims look OK in the photos, but the valley areas have the usual rust. They are good for rechroming or useable for a rider. The bike looks like it was down on the right side at one time. Brake lever is ground off on the end and the foot peg looks like it was bent and straightened. My guess it that the dent in the tank happened when the bike went down. Very minor damage though. The bike is on auction for no reserve. Have fun bidding. I will not ship the bike, but will assist in any way I can to help you get it to your new home. If you are close to me here in the San Francisco area or perhaps down toward San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara we can work out a delivery. My friend live in Santa Barbara, my daughter in San Luis Obispo and I live near Santa Cruz, CA. I zip up and down the coast frequently to see one of them and could load the bike in the truck and bring it along for a small cost. If you have questions, please shoot them my way. Thanks,Allen
