Vehicle Detail

For auction is a 1972 Standard (Non Super) Beetle. Car has new vw style rims and Khumo tires, new running boards, new Grant steering wheel, new Pertronix Single Vacuum Distributor Advance (SVDA) Distributor with the Ignitor II electronic ignition system, a new Flamethrower II matching coil, new Pertronix 8mm plug wires, and new Bugpak Valve covers. The entire ignition system was installed last week, when the car underwent a complete tuneup (New Plugs, Oil changed, filter screen and brass washers replaced, and the valves adjusted). Also included in the sale is a brand new Scat Degree timing wheel that will need to be installed, and a brand new 34-Pict 3 carburetor (Non Solex). The truth is I couldn't get the car to run right with the new carb so I went back to the Solex 34-pict 3 and the car runs well. The car will need a new exhaust system. The one on the car leaks and causes it to back fire through the exhaust on deceleration. (Not lean backfire through the carb like the car's timing is too advanced, it is because the exhaust has a leak and grabs air.) Included in the sale is a Dwell / RPM meter that is essential for proper adjustment of the carb. The previous owner had the floor pans, heater channels, and heater boxes replaced. Additionally, he had the front end redone with all new bushings, and the front and rear brakes redone. This work was done in 2010, and all parts look new. The heater boxes still have the stickers on them. The front seats have been recovered, there is a new seat cover for the rear seat, but it needs to be installed. The carpet was also replaced in 2010 and is in good condition. Included in the sale are new heater control cables for the heater boxes and the interior heat controls. These will need to be installed. All of the lights function properly and the horn works fine. I purchased the car in October, 2011 with the hopes of converting the car to a baja bug. I just dont have the time or the finances to properly undertake this endeavor. The car runs and drives, but is far from perfect. The car has a 8 inch long by 1/4 inch wide spot of rot on the drivers rear quarter panel. (Please see picture) The front fenders on the car are in poor shape, but included in the sale are a second set of 1972 German vw beetle driver and passenger fenders that have no rot on them. These fenders are not aftermarket. I bought them from another ebayer in New Mexico, because they were in great shape and vw original. They will require a little body work due to their age to look new. There are 2 small areas of rot behind the rear wheels (where the rear wheel well meets the back of the heater channel), but I have the replacement sheet metal and it is of course included in the sale. These two spots cause heat to escape through the back of the heater channel, so this repair will need to be completed for the heat to work properly. The hood molding is missing. The bumpers will need to be re chromed / replaced as they have rust on them. The window seals are functional and do not leak, but should be replaced as they are dry rotted. The windows open and close, but the regulators will need to be lubricated as they stick a little. The car has a couple of areas around the body that have surface rust. The speedometer hasn't worked since I have had the car, but I was told by the previous owner that it worked until he removed the cable from the back of the gauge while trying to replace a couple of light bulbs. The odometer reads 92,279, but I put 93000 just to be safe. It may be a simple fix, but I haven't played with it. The fuel sending unit gasket should be replaced as there is a slight odor of fuel when the tank is full. There is no radio in the car, but the factory hole has not been altered. I have a ton of spare parts (nuts, bolts, misc.parts) that come with the car.I have a lot of printed literature, the Haynes repair manual which will go to the winning bidder and all of the receipts for the parts that I have purchased / installed identified in the first paragraph above. I have the original owners manual and I actually have the original dealer window sheet for this car. I am told that I am the third owner, as the person that I bought this from bought the car from the widow of the original owner. In summary this is a great little car with all of the difficult restoration work completed. It does require attention to a couple of items, but as is, it makes a decent knock around car. THe parts required to complete the restoration of the car are very inexpensive. With a little effort it can be made into a beautiful car. This is a "No Reserve Auction", so please bid accordingly. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Buyer responsible for shipping / getting it to its final destination. As stated it does run and drive., but the title will not be transferred until car is paid in full. No international bidders please. Anyone with negative or zero feed back please contact me prior to bidding. Thank you for your interest and good luck.
