Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 300D 4-door Adenauer sedan with roughly 36,300 miles. The exterior color is more of a black cherry and the interior is more of a dark maroon. The car was repainted in 1969 from it's original dark gray color. Just the exterior color was repainted, the door jams, trunk, and underhood are original colors. My father purchased this vehicle in 1965 from a Mercedes dealer in Cincinnati, Ohio. When purchased the car had 23,000 miles and he was the second owner of the vehicle. My father died in 1980 and the car has been in storage since then. The last time the car was driven was 9 years ago. I have made every attempt to get the car running, but at this time the engine turns over freely and with the help of starter fluid will try to start, but is not getting enough fuel to run on its own. This car is not road worthy. The pictures viewed here make the car look better than it really is. The car is perfect for restoration, there is no rust on the floors, trunk, or rocker panel areas. The bottom of the doors show surface rust and the rubber on the door sills need replacing. The body panels and frame are very solid. The interior for it's age is in great condition. No tears in the leather and the door panels are in perfect shape. The carpets need replacing and there is moisture damage on the wood dash on the driver's side, but all wood needs to be refinished, not replaced. There is a small dent in the trunk lid. Exterior chrome pieces, although look good in photos, show some sign of surface pitting. Most of the chrome could be restored. All 4 hubcaps, 1 headlight ring, 1 tailight lens need replacing, most parts are available through ebay. All electrical, lights and turn signals work, radio works (has great sound - becker) interior lamps, and heater all work. The car comes with a factory tool set, all factory manuals, and passenger head rest. If you have been looking for a car like this to restore, and are interested, I strongly advise you to inspect it in person or send a representative before placing a bid.
