Vehicle Detail

This is an extremely rare truck of Chevy's "Art Deco" style. A knowledgeable major dealer of Chevy truck replacement parts says there are maybe five of them left in the world. It is restored as an original (although the "woodie" features are not original). The restoration is a careful amateur job, beginning with a truck in exceedingly rough condition. Consider it a rescue as much as a restoration. It is NOT a Concours d'Elegance restoration or a point-system prize winner. The body required extensive cosmetic restoration, which included copious quantities of Bondo (reinforced where appropriate with perforated aluminum, with resulting strength that rivals the original metal). The project included complete engine overhaul (the engine is not the original, but the same basic block, a 216-c.i., OHV, half-pressure straight six. All running gear -- clutch, brakes, tires, etc. -- is new. Electrical system has been converted to 12-volt (for better lights and a modern sound system), although it uses the original generator case instead of an inappropriate alternator. The original truck model was called a "canopy express delivery" truck, "canopy" for the original canvas that covered the sides of the cargo area. (It's what was also known as a "huckster" truck.) The canvas was replaced in this restoration with wood panels that hinge down to make table surfaces (think “roach coach). The tailgate is of the same material. (The original had “barn” doors on the back, but those were missing and would have been at least extremely difficult to replace, considering the rarity of the body). The result is the ultimate tailgate party vehicle (lacking only a permanently installed beer tap). The truck drives well. It has been used in a parade and has performed well in a club rally that covered some 200 miles in an afternoon. This truck would make an ideal promotion for the right kind of business. $1,000 due at conclusion of auction (via PayPal or cashier’s check/money order by mail), remainder in cash or cashier’s check at pick-up and transfer of title. Pick-up/transportation are the responsibility of the buyer.
