Vehicle Detail
This auction is for a 2006 Honda Civic Si coupe finished in Nighthawk Black Pearl and a black interior with red stitching. It’s priced well below retail due to some engine noise, details of which are noted further down in the description. The Si is powered by a 197 horsepower 2.0 liter 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC® engine that has received excellent reviews by engineers and the automotive press for its high power output, great economy and inherent smoothness. It features an aluminum alloy engine block and cylinder head for light weight and excellent heat dissipation, i-VTEC (intelligent Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) for maximum power output at all engine speeds, a balance shaft for smoothness and absence of vibration allowing for a high 8,000 rpm redline, multiport fuel injection for excellent gas mileage, distributorless coil on plug (COP) ignition for reliability in all environmental conditions, and drive by wire electronic throttle for precise control of drivability parameters. The most interesting feature on this engine is the tuned air intake that tunnels out of the engine compartment, into the fender area, and back to the intake manifold. Besides creating a ram-air effect, by routing the intake through the fender, the sound of the engine getting on the cams is amplified because the fender acts as a resonator. The engine is mated to a close ratio 6-speed manual transmission with a helical-type limited slip differential and a 4.29:1 axle ratio. This transaxle setup has a low first gear that provides brisk acceleration which gets you from 0 to 60 mph in the mid 6 seconds, while the high overdrive top gear allows for effortless highway cruising and excellent fuel economy figures in the mid to upper 30 mpg’s in real world driving. The helical-type differential eliminates wheelspin when accelerating hard out of corners when the weight’s off the inside front wheel. The clutch action and shifter feel are the best in its class. The short-throw 6-speed stick is buttery smooth and lets you flick off shifts with speed and precision and the clutch is feather light for tireless hours inside the cockpit. Rounding out the Si is a suspension made to carve up twisting roads. Start off with a light curb weight under 2,800 pounds and a chassis 35 percent stiffer than the previous generation Civic. Add in a solid front anti-roll bar (it’s hollow on the EX), a bigger rear bar (0.7 inch versus 0.4) and low profile tires and it all adds up to what Honda calls “razor-like” handling. It goes without saying that the Civic Si is one of the most fun cars to drive in it’s price range, and that it’s quicker, faster and handles better than many other pseudo-sports cars costing thousands more. Not only is the Civic Si fun to drive, it’s also economical to maintain. Most systems have low or reduced maintenance components. For example, instead of a timing belt that needs periodic replacement, the Civic Si uses a steel timing chain that lasts for the life of the engine. It uses iridium tipped spark plugs with 100,000 mile service intervals and extended life coolant with a 10 year/120,000 mile service interval. And the Civic has a Maintenance Minder system that calculates the optimum service intervals based on how the car is driven. A car driven primarily on the highway requires less maintenance than one subject to city use with constant stopping and starting. The entire Civic line has been totally redesigned for 2006 and is improved over the previous model in every respect. Also, the ’06 model looks virtually identical to the 2011 models. Both mechanically and stylistically the Civic has earned the reputation of becoming one of the best vehicles in its class. Its new exterior style is very unique. From its sleek lines and sweeping curves incorporating elements from premium European sports cars, it looks handsome from any angle without being flashy. The Si specifically, has a monochromatic paint scheme with body color bumpers, mirrors and door handles for a solid look. But if you like high tech design, the interior is a feast for the eyes. Get in and sit down in a sport bucket seat that adjusts to the perfect driving position with settings for height adjustment and recline. Then adjust the tilt leather wrapped steering wheel to achieve complete driving control. Now glance above you at the large glass moonroof that lets in light in all weather conditions and opens up on nice sunny days. Next, look ahead at the dashboard with the hot red glow of the two level electroluminescent style gauge pod and center stack and how easy they are to read. Look right and left at the brushed aluminum trim and titanium accents on the doors, dash and shifter and to the perforated sport cloth seats with Alcantara® (aka ultra-suede) accents and red stitching that a Ferrari owner would be most familiar with. Finally, glance down at your feet where pedals of stainless steel with rubber buttons are ready for your commands. Not only is the styling all sport, but all the textures have a rich feel and look and all the switchgear have a precise soft touch action. From the perforations of the leather wrapped steering wheel, the graining pattern on the dash and door panels, or the layout of the knobs and switches on the dash, everything looks and feels like it came from a more expensive car. Now place the key in the ignition and turn the engine on. You hear a light but unobtrusive growl and are surprised how smooth it idles. Next, take it for a spin. Whether on congested city streets, open highways, or twisting mountain roads, you will be amazed how smooth, quick and powerful this Civic Si drives. This Civic Si is fully equipped with all the desirable safety, comfort and convenience features and equipment including: 197 horsepower 2.0 liter i-VTEC® engine 6-speed close ratio manual transmission Helical-type limited slip differential with 4.29:1 axle ratio Air conditioning with electronic climate control and cabin air filter Power glass moonroof with slide and vent positions and sunshade and one-touch open and close Power windows with drivers express up and down Power door locks Cruise control 350 watt AM/FM/XM satellite ready CD MP3 stereo with digital clock, integrated antenna, seven speakers and rear deck subwoofer Remote keyless entry Multi-adjustable front sport bucket seats with embroidered red “Si” logos Sport cloth interior with Alcantara® accents and red stitching Seatback storage pocket Tilt steering wheel Steering wheel mounted cruise control switches and secondary stereo buttons Leather wrapped steering wheel Leather wrapped shift knob and leather shift boot with red stitching Split-level red electroluminescent style instrument cluster with digital speedometer and multi-function displays for outside temperature, oil life, maintenance minder, two trip odometers, etc. Center console with cup holders, sliding adjustable armrest, storage compartments and two 12V power outlets Auxiliary input jack for iPods® and external devices Tinted glass Clear lens headlights with jewel effect reflectors Fog lights Intermittent wipers Front and rear dome lights with theater dimming Dual power body color outside rear view mirrors Dual visor vanity mirrors Remote locking trunk lid and fuel door release Engine immobilizer theft deterrent system Aluminum wheels 60/40 split fold-down and locking rear seats with pass-through to trunk for skis or long items Trunk light Battery rundown protection Retained accessory power (RAP) Rear window defroster Rear spoiler with integrated center high mounted stop light (CHMSL) Polished stainless steel exhaust tip Dual front airbags with advanced dual-stage and dual-threshold technology and passenger sensing system Front seat side airbags Front head curtain air bags Rear head curtain airbags Front seatbelt pre-tensioners Child seat anchors (LATCH) system Emergency trunk release 4 wheel disc anti-lock brakes with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) Electrically assisted power steering And many more items too numerous to mention. INPUT JACK: 12V OUTLET UNDER CENTER ARMREST: PULL-OUT REAR COAT HOOKS: REAR HEAD CURTAIN AIRBAGS: REAR SEAT BACKS FOLD-DOWN 60/40 FOR CARRYING LONG OBJECTS: The exterior of the car is in very nice condition. It has a beautiful dent-free body with just a few minor nicks, blemishes and hairline scratches you would normally expect on a car of this age and mileage. The front bumper has some stone chips but the sides of the car are virtually absent of any door dings. The paint itself is beautiful and shiny and this shade of pearl black just about glows in the sunlight. It has been cleaned with Meguiar’s Smooth Surface Clay System, polished with Meguiar’s Mirror Glaze cleaner polish and topped off with Meguiar’s Synthetic Sealant for a high gloss shine. I checked the car out top to bottom and found no evidence that is was ever wrecked. In fact, it still has the original VIN stickers on all body panels. Remember, it’s hard enough to find a 2 or 3 year old 30,000 mile vehicle that hasn’t had at least a fender-bender requiring a bumper, hood or fender to be replaced, let alone one with 95,000 miles like this one. Hood: Front bumper: Left fender: Right fender: Left body side: Right body side: Left front door: Right front door: Trunk: Rear bumper: The interior is in great condition as well. It has excellent upholstery, carpet, dashboard and door panels with no cracks, rips or tears or any significant signs of wear. The car doesn‘t have any smokers smell. In fact, it’s not even equipped with a lighter. The trunk looks like it was hardly ever used and the engine compartment has been fully detailed and is clean enough to eat off of. Mechanically it drives excellent but the engine makes a knocking noise at certain times. The noise is most noticeable when you rev it and take your foot off the gas like when up shifting. It sounds like the beginning of a rod knock, like shaking a milk carton full of marbles is as best as I can describe it. You only hear it when the engine is warmed up, not when it’s cold. It’s not loud or even noticeable unless the windows are closed and you are on a quiet stretch of road. The car is still completely drivable and you don’t really hear anything while cruising, accelerating or idling. Also, if you drive it gently you can prevent the noise from occurring. I would assume it needs new rod bearings, which you can possibly replace by just dropping the oil pan. I’m not a professional mechanic but that is my take on the issue. Others have told me it could be the catalytic converter or a loose heat shield, a bad cam or lifter, even a belt drive component. I’ve priced the car at the worse case scenario. If you luck out and find the problem is just a minor issue, I promise I won’t ask you for more money. This would be a perfect candidate for some major internal performance mods coupled with maybe a turbo or supercharger. In other words, why spend much more money on another car if you’re going to take apart the engine and mod it anyway. Alternatively, you could keep on driving it the way it is and just fix it if something breaks. Otherwise, the steering wheel is on dead center going down the road with no shakes or vibrations at speed, the brakes are firm with no pedal pulsations or pulling to one side when stopping and the suspension is tight. The A/C blows cold. It has a like new pair of Sumic GT55A tires made by Cooper on the front and a pair of Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires with decent tread on the rear. Both the front brake pads and rotors and the rear brake pads and rotors have recently been replaced. The fog lights have been installed but have not been wired to the switch yet. Front brake pads: Front rotors: Rear brake pads: Rear rotors: Overall this is a super sharp car that looks fantastic in Nighthawk Black Pearl with the murdered out look. That styling includes the blacked out wheels and window tint. Keep the tint on at your discretion, as I can’t be responsible if your state has a problem with it or if you get a ticket. The only other mod is a set of Tien springs for a mild lowering which also enhances the slammed look while improving handling without giving a too harsh ride. Oh, and it does have a new Redline genuine leather shift boot with red stitching that perfectly matches the red stitching in the rest of the upholstery. Front springs: Rear springs: This Civic Si is a later production 2006 model built in May of ’06 and has always been a southern car. That’s probably why it’s so clean. It was first titled in Florida but not until late June 2006 so it’s still only 5 ½ years old. It has a clean CarFax and other than the murdered out styling and lowering, is bone stock. That is unlike many of these Si’s that are extensively modified with sometimes questionable mods, both in terms of quality and taste. Whether you like your car mostly original like this one is, or like to modify it correctly, this car is the blank canvas you can start with knowing you won’t have to correct another person’s mistakes or poor taste. The car comes with all the books and the radio security code card: And a front license plate bracket if you need it: 2006 is the first year of the new bodystyle for the Civic and if you’ve been looking for an 8th generation Civic Si, the 2006 model is the best value to buy since it’s nearly identical to the 2011’s, but being six model years old, the majority of the depreciation has been absorbed by the previous owner, yet the car is still very clean and looks great. Since the ’06 Civic was the first year of the new bodystyle, it’s the oldest, and thus, the least expensive model you can buy. What that means is you can own a car with the looks, style and prestige of a 2011 Civic Si for a fraction of the cost. In fact, because of the mechanical issues, this Civic Si may be the cheapest one you will find until a few years of depreciation have reduced the prices of other Si’s to the level of this one. It could be a year or two before that happens, so if you’ve always wanted a 8th gen. Civic Si but thought you didn’t quite have enough funds to purchase one, this car may just have your name on it. In other words, it’s going to take another year or two before the other ’06 Civic Si’s that are advertised now for $12,000 to $14,000 depreciate down to the price of this Civic. So why wait that long? In a year or two their prices will be the same as this one is right now anyway, so you might as well own and enjoy it now! The cost new of this loaded Civic Si was nearly $21,000! CLICK HERE to see the original pricing, But because it was a hot new model, most dealers were adding additional market adjustment markups (read rip off), so with tax, title and tags, you were lucky if you got ANY change back from your $25,000 bill! The Kelly Blue Book retail price on the car is over $14,000. CLICK HERE to see the Blue Book pricing. I have the Buy It Now price at over $5,000 below that amount! If you are serious about buying an 8th generation Civic Si with under 100,000 miles that hasn’t been wrecked, this is about as low as they go because of the engine noise. Remember, you can get a great deal on Ebay with prices sometimes way below retail, but no bidder is going to “steal” a vehicle and no seller is going to give one away either. If you are looking for a nice Civic Si in very clean condition at a low price, then this car is hard to beat. Also remember that we don’t charge dealer processing fees or document fees that many other listings have for $200 or more and bury in their fine print. And don’t be fooled by some other auctions that are advertised as NO RESERVE and start at $100 or some other low price. Since no dealer is going to risk loosing thousands of dollars if their auction doesn’t bring enough money, you can be pretty sure he has some “people” bidding on it for him. Especially those auctions that are private listings where it says “User ID kept private.” Also, because my reserve is close to the Buy It Now price, don’t think that you will get a much better deal if you just keep bidding it up instead of using B.I.N., especially if you need it delivered. TERMS OF THE AUCTION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Since this car may be advertised locally, auction can be canceled at any time (unless auction ended early with BUY IT NOW) due to prior sale without liability to any bidder. A down payment of $500 (plus any additional delivery charge) is required within 3 days of the close of the auction, balance due in cash on delivery or certified funds on delivery if I deliver it or you pick it up, or before it’s dropped off at the transporter if a shipping company is transporting it, but no later than 7 days after the close of the auction without prior agreement. I accept bank or certified checks, money orders, credit cards through PayPal (accepted for down payment only). If paying balance with funds other than cash, buyer to fax copy of monetary instrument no less than 24 hours before picking up vehicle. The car is sold as is. Buyer is welcome to inspect car BEFORE the end of the auction or to have someone check it out on your behalf provided you authorize whoever is checking the car to provide me with a copy of the results. I have tried to accurately describe this car, both mechanically and cosmetically but you can expect a certain amount of minor flaws on ANY used car including squeaks, rattles, drips, nicks, chips, scratches, blemishes and any other marks that are consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. There is no possible way to include all minute details and imperfections, however, I believe my listing accurately depicts this vehicle and if there are any issues they are noted in the description. Also remember that a vehicle is made up of thousands of mechanical parts and components and in an older or higher mileage used vehicle a part that is working fine now may go bad the next day, in a week, or a month from now. It’s nearly impossible to tell when a particular part or component will fail as most don’t exhibit prior symptoms. In fairness to all bidders the reserve price will not be disclosed so please don’t even ask. Buyer responsible for transportation and car must be paid for in full before it can be released. May deliver. Email or call for delivery quote or for any other questions. atikovi@email.com Maryland and District of Columbia dealer. Phone 202-246-5201. Please do not bid if you don’t intend to buy.
