Vehicle Detail

For auction is my project 72 Camaro split-bumper. This was a straight, solid old Camaro I found in the high desert years ago. It was parked for a long time before being worked on. I stripped it to a bare shell then had it blasted to bare metal inside, outside and under the car at which point it went to my sheetmetal/body man I was using then. For some reason next time I saw the car he was installing new quarters even though the originals were good, just with minor rippling. The floorpan took a hit during this time as the car spent a couple of winters outdoors before the floorpan was primed and sealed. There is now some rust issues, relatively minor except for the drivers footwell area. The floor is overall solid and easily repairable. The trunk floor is still decent. The frame rails are solid and straight. The sheetmetal work is done. The bodywork was started but not completed. After etch-priming the body had a heavy coat of high-build catalized primer applied with guide coat over it. The fenders and front RS sheetmetal are original pieces and in decent condition with no rust issues though there is bodywork needed. The urethane bumper is in good overall condition. All brackets are in place. The front bumpers are original and decent, not bolted onto the car. I have not yet found the rear bumper brackets, but the bumper is there, and nice. No windsheild or back glass, but I do have a decent set of windsheild molding. The door glass is nice, the doors are usable with a good set of hinges I sorted out from several sets; the doors are from a power window/door lock car and I have a pretty complete wiring harness for them, but the drivers door regulator is missing. I am furnishing a decent set of manual regulators also. The front subframe is original and in good condition. The suspension was rebuilt app. 2 years ago, never used except to roll the car. The front sway bar is from a 400 Trans Am. The engine is a fresh and nicely built .030 396 (very close to a 402) that has a steel crank, high-performance GM rods with 7/16" rod bolts, forged small-dome pistons, moly rings, fully de-burred and balanced reciprocating assembly, a slightly massaged set of 049 cylinder heads with oversize intake valves (app. 9.25 compression ratio with 0 deck and nominal gasket thickness) and a full Crane valvetrain including a hot street roller cam, retrofit roller lifters, big moly pushrods, adjustable (1.6 or 1.7) full-roller rockers, valve springs and retainers. Timing is provided by a Pete Jackson gear drive. Oiling is through a Melling HV pump, and a windage tray has been installed. The transmission is a Turbo 350 that was built for another car and used very little before being replaced with a 700R4, a nice unit with good clutches and a mild shift kit. The differential is a factory 10-bolt open with highway gears and is hung on multi-leaf springs. A lot of parts come with the car, including seats with front seat tracks, misc. interior components, a tach-style instrument cluster, a fairly complete a-c system with controller, large 3-row radiator, driveshaft, etc. Items missing include fuel tank and sending unit, brake and fuel lines, and front calipers. Definitely a project car, but as definitely a good solid place to start building a nice RS-SS as 72 was the last year for the big-block. The Camaro has a clear California title.
