Vehicle Detail
1969 AMC Hurst SC/Rambler If you are looking at this auction, then you know how rare this car is. You are looking at one of the 1512 Hurst SC/Ramblers produced in 1969 by AMC. This car has a special history in that it was the inspiration for the 1512 Registry. Yes, this was Joie Vaughn’s car before I purchased it in 2005. Number 274 in the registry, you can read her story by going to www.joiesjeeps.com. I still have an original copy of Street and Strip Motorsports magazine, where Joie was featured with her car. This copy will go with the car. Joie had taken fantastic care of the car, so it was a great foundation. While there are a few things that are not 100% correct on the car, we brought it back as close as possible to its original glory. When I purchased the car from Joie, it was basically a roller. No engine, trans, interior, and the list goes on. The body was in unbelievable condition, so all of the sheet metal is original. I obtained a 1969 390 from a fellow AMC collector and rebuilt the engine with a few upgrades. Internally, it has forged pistons, a Crane cam, oiling upgrade, and a standard crank. As you can see, this SC/Rambler has the Group 19 Cross Ram intake with dual Holley carbs. The Holley carbs are more modern carbs, but I have a set of period correct Holley’s that will go with the car. We did extensive tuning to jet the new carbs correctly, and the car fires on the first turn of the key and idles perfectly. I obtained a 1969 T10 transmission that has been totally rebuilt. The flywheel, pressure plate and Stage 3 clutch are all new. The original Corporate 20 rear end was totally rebuilt and now has 4.10 gears. This little SC runs, shifts and drives perfectly. It will absolutely fly. All of the suspension has been replaced. Every bushing, springs, trunions, bolts, ect are all new. The car tracks and drives perfectly. The car has new shocks and brakes around. As mentioned, the body and sheet metal was in near perfect condition. While not rotisserie restored, the bottom of the car was stripped to bare metal and painted black. The body was also stripped to bare metal and repainted the correct “A” scheme paint job. The paint quality is outstanding. All new rubber was installed after paint. All of the glass and bright work was retained as it was in excellent condition. I would consider the paint better than new. The rear bumper really needs to be re-chromed and some light straightening. I intended on getting that done, but haven’t yet. The car rides on a set of correctly painted Rally’s and new BFG rubber. I was able to obtain a set of original SC/Rambler seats and the correct material to recover them from a fellow AMC enthusiast. All of the interior is new and in excellent condition. While there are a couple of interior pieces that aren’t 100% correct, the interior is an excellent presentation. All of the gauges, lights, and even the dealer installed radio work perfectly. This is a very rare car with an added unique history. It will win many shows as it sits and can be driven daily. As mentioned, there are a few pieces that aren’t 100% correct, but I’ve taken it as far as I want to go. Inspections are welcome as all sales are final. This car is being sold as-is. A non-refundable deposit of $1000 is required within 48 hours of end of auction. The balance is due within 7 days of auction end, so please have funds available. Final payment will only be accepted by cash, cashier’s check, or bank wire transfer. While I own a restoration business, this is a personal car. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle. This vehicle is for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. On Dec-24-11 at 09:09:13 PST, seller added the following information: ***** Since several people have asked, I am listing the information for the door tag below. It is still attached with the original rivets. I may not be around the car to take a picture of the tag before the auction ends, so I wanted to provide that information for those interested.
