Vehicle Detail

RARE 1949 Ford F3 pickup truck w/ a Dump bed. Odometer reads 46,897.3 miles! A true piece of automotive history, these are the 1 ton of their day and you don't see many of them, and not in this restorable condition, good condition with most of the tough stuff done. Especially with a dump bed, which just adds that touch of the unseen! I have added a detailed description and plenty of pictures and a video link...so enjoy the preview of your new truck! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eS8lafbm8eo Condition: Engine compartment: Flat six runs good and smooth. New battery, new solenoid, new misc water & fuel hoses(as needed), new misc wires(as needed), new cap, rotor, plugs & wires. Just everything to make it run reliable for you. I hopped in the truck after it sat outside my shop for a couple months to move it for pictures and she turned over and started right up with a couple pumps; in 20 degree weather! Drive terrain: 4 speed tranny shifts good (though double clutching is par with these old girls, at least the clutch pushes easy :-)) Clutch works good. It has a DUMP BED (totally cool for impressing your buddies at the car show, or even tossing in a tarp after restore and making use of her with a landscaping bark/rock or dump run, no shoveling here!) PTO works good and hoist goes up and down smooth, as video shows. Brakes need some work, probably just some adjusting (when I got the truck it had been sitting in a garage for a while so one of the brakes was sticking, so we cranked em loose. I drove it around for a few days and they freed up, so they probably just need to be tightened back up). Chassis: Drives down the road nice and straight for a truck over 60 years old, low miles show in the good tight handling; not all loose, you won't have to wrestle to keep it on the road. Rides like a brick because of the stiff 1 ton suspension, this truck is SOLID, more springs than a slinky, they don't make em' like this anymore. I put it on the trailer to bring it home and I thought my straps weren't tightening for a minute...the suspension didn't budge, no squatting here. You could probably load the back with lead and not see it in the suspension. Not much else to say here...rear end works as it should, steers as it should, rides as it should, etc... low miles show in drive terrain. Body: Needs total body & paint restoration...it was painted black and yellow just to protect it from the elements (and to make it look good going down the road in the meantime) it could be left like that for a few years if you wanted and it would be protected. No body work was done so it has dings, but no major dents, so you can see exactly what you are getting! No bondo cover up here! No rust to speak of, just some surface stuff. No cab seals have been replaced (usually part of body restoration.). No cracks in the windows (one small windshield rock dimple chip, no spider), doors open and close as they should (no sagging doors on these old trucks), hood opens good and stays open good (though it can be a little sticky sometimes, nothing WD 40 won't fix.) Bed and tailgate are solid, new oak in the bed, so it just needs a quick surface sand and refinished during the restoration. Lights work but no blinkers (no interior switch). Wiper works but its slow. Don't know what else to say... no rust through on the floors like you see in so many old cars, no rust through anywhere. Very solid truck for you to use and restore. Interior: Beautiful freshly recovered seat, (the seat alone makes me want to restore the truck, it really is nice), gauges look good (but presently not working... probably just need hooked back up, as previous owner did quite a bit of under dash work), the vent works good as does the heater (previous owner said he replaced the blower fan), but it still needs new flex tubes to direct air flow to the defrost, easy hook up (still warms, just puts the warm air into the cab.) Needs carpet, there is carpet in it but it's just a thin cut up floor cover that can be easily taken out. Needs radio, radio spot is just covered by a metal plate. The hard part in any interior is the seat, which is done really well, the rest can be done to match easily in these old trucks. Why I'm selling: Well here it is, the classic car guy line... I really hate to sell this beauty. :-) It truly is a restorers dream, a really good and solid truck, but its just not something I'm going to use. Yes, as with most car guys, I have way too many projects, but that's not why I'm selling it, as this truck is an easy restore. I'm selling it because I don't even know what I would do with it when I got it done. I have way too many cars and I think someone out there will enjoy it more than me (that's hard for a car guy to say). Not that I don't like classics, but I'm really a Hot Rodder and I would never do that to this truck, its too rare and in too good of shape. We have a roofing company (www. victorianroofingandremodel .com), so I was thinking about using it for that, but we use larger trucks for that (like the one in the background). We have a Bed & Breakfast (www. bedandbreakfastattiffanys .com) so we thought about using it for advertising, but it really isn't the era of our B&B. At any rate, if I don't sell the truck it won't hurt my feelings either, I'll just restore it and keep it. I thought about restoring it to sell first, but I know there are a lot of guys that would like a good worthwhile project that is not overwhelming. (Besides, I could tell you I would restore it and then sell it, but I know myself better than that, if I restore this truck for myself I would form a mental attachment and I would just keep it.) I don't know what it is... if you bought the truck from me and had me restore it for you, I think of it as yours (which is a possibility if you are interested in that option), its yours and I form no personal attachment (I've done it several times), but if I built it the same exact way, but it didn't have an owner, I would form a personal attachment...it must be an adoption thing. Anyway, enough of my car guy psychological eBay shrink session. :-) Summary: Really though, this 1949 F3 with a dump bed is an easy restoration for you. Its a solid truck with low miles. If you are a restoration professional or are planning to take this truck to a professional to refinish, this is an easy truck to restore, you'll pull it out in the spring just in time for the drive/show season... but a little advice to those who want a project but aren't restoration professionals...Why spend your time and money with an old truck that is disassembled and/or undrivable? You won't save time or money. By the time you get that type of truck drivable (be honest with yourself...if you ever get it drivable) then you'll haave lost interest in the frustration of no reward, and will have gotten none of the joy of driving the truck around. I've restored cars my whole life, and as such, I have seen it way too many times... guys buy more of a project than they have ability or time for, it doesn't run and drive so they soon get tired of working on it with no reward/joy of driving it, and they dump it to someone else who may do the same thing. Don't be that guy! Yes, working on old cars is fun, but half of the joy is driving it, get a truck you can enjoy while you work on it, not a basket case that's beyond your available time or ability. Save yourself time and money. When you drive down the street in this piece of history everyone gets a smile on their face as they wave at you, that's what will keep you motivated to continue to work on the truck. Anyway, a great and Rare piece of automotive history in this 1949 Ford F3 dump bed for you to drive down the street, show off, use, enjoy, and restore. Technical: I'm just as much the automotive sentimentalist as anyone, but don't bid if you can't pay. The truck is available for inspection, I am available for questions, and there are pictures & a video link so you know what your new 1949 Ford F3 Dump bed truck looks like, runs like, drives like, and dumps like...so there is no reason for not knowing exactly what you're getting. Payment of $500 at time of purchase the rest within one week, or as negotiated with individual buyer before purchase. Your paid for 1949 Ford F3 can remain in front of my shop as long as reasonably needed to arrange pick up/or delivery, I can deliver for a reasonable distance for a fee, and I would trust it to drive home if you're semi local. Thanks, chad
