Vehicle Detail
I have a 1982 Subaru Station Wagon for sale. 1.8 L, 4 speed, Hi/Lo Range 4 WD. Straight body. Interior has cracked dash and front seat wear, great carpet and door panels, but nicks on the ceiling. Bull bumper, cyclops eye, factory (dealer option) cruise (doesn't work). ALL trim is in place with the exception of two logos on the hatch (I have a source for these if car sells over $1000.00. Good brakes; new tires ($390.00) with less than 1K miles; drives straight; dual range 4WD works fine - nice & tight. No drips, smoke, or leaks. 73K miles on everything but the motor which was replaced within the last year with a used one (Can provide the name and number of the source). I've had 3 4 WD Brats, several 4 WD wagons, and 2 AWD XTs. I've loved Subaru for decades. THE BAD: It will need a clutch though it works fine up to 60 mph where it begins to gain RPMs. Put 2000 miles on it like this so far. Needs an alternator - just went out in the last week - which I will have replaced if new owner wishes to pay the cost. A/C is fully charged and runs perfect when power is run to it: there seems to be a problem between the switch and the compressor and I didn't want to wire it direct. Started up after months of sitting with no problem. I drove it at 60 MPH all the way with no slippage. I trust it enough to deliver it within 200 miles for a reasonable price. It's a good cheap 4WD right now, but with a little work you'd have a proven investment. I have no problem keeping it over the winter as they're hard to beat on that surface. I have a new project car and one has to go. Pictures will be posted and more will be available on request. On Dec-07-11 at 14:40:39 PST, seller added the following information: I've had a lot of questions about rust, especially as related to the undercarriage. I am uploading pix in just a few minutes showing this: for a 30 year old 4WD, I'd say it is practically nonexistent. Also, I'm posting pictures of the engine compartment. If anyone needs pictures of any specific area please let me know: there is nothing to hide on this vehicle. I have not even cleaned it - inside or outside. It is not a 10. It is a great little Subaru, especially for this price, that would be special with a little more attention that I can give it. The props for the rear hatch do not support so I'm including a wooden stick specially designed (LOL) to hold it. The AM radio is wonderfully static. Driver side CV is click-clacking. I haven't checked to see if the boot is off needing grease or the axle is shot. It works. I have agreed to drive this little beast to Tennessee and to Mississippi if these are the winning bidders. This should indicate that I trust the little beastie. All glass is good. Original owner's manual and other papers are still in the glove compartment in their little clear plastic holder. Well, not clear after 30 years, but it was. There is an exhaust leak I had forgotten about until I crawled under the car: it's not bad and is toward the rear of the line. Plastic bushing in the shifter (external not transmission) is worn so shift throw is long, but slides into gear smoothly. Cyclops eye works but doesn't open with the switch - vacuum? I don't know and haven't checked. Anything else, just ask. On Dec-08-11 at 14:47:37 PST, seller added the following information: Okay, a few more questions over the phone that I need to answer: I just threw a freshly charged battery in the little baby and ran to the liquor store for bourbon - she started and ran just fine. All the guages work; the horn works; all the lights work. She held right at 50 lbs. of oil pressure at 1100 RPM (70 lbs. when cold). I don't have any idea of the gas mileage, but after driving a V-8 Land Rover, it was a Godsend. The clutch didn't slip, but I didn't go over 45 MPH. I lugged her down to 1500 RPM in 4th gear and she pulled right on up to speed without bucking then on the way back I ran her to 4000 RPM in second and the little powerplant was startin' to breathe. As I've explained to everyone who has talked to me on the phone, it's a good little motor in a good little Subie. She just needs some fine-tuning to run like a top (vacuum lines I believe). It's had less than 4000 miles put on it since 1995. Good Lord willing, I will be selling many more Subarus and Subaru parts in the next few months as a friend has asked that I liquidate his inventory of old Subies. Therefore, I don't want to mislead anyone and get some negative feedback that will hurt future sales. This little car is not perfect, but she's a diamond in the rough. If you want to talk to me about this little car, just email me your phone number and I will call back. To those of you who have talked to me, Good Hunting. If I have not called you back after trying to contact me, please call again. I will get back with you. My daughter is home from Hawaii for a while and I manage 2 apartment complexes so I'm quite busy and may have missed or forgotten. Grace and Peace, David On Dec-11-11 at 05:28:17 PST, seller added the following information: I've been driving the little car these last 2 or 3 days. Turns out the alternator is fine; the battery was bad. Car is being offered on CraigsList at the same price as the Buy It Now was on Ebay. If I am offered this before it hits that in bidding on Ebay, I will sell it and close the auction. Just wanted to let everyone know this. Seems only fair. On Dec-12-11 at 14:14:31 PST, seller added the following information: ITEM IS NO LONGER FOR SALE. FOR SOME REASON I AM UNABLE TO END THIS AUCTION THROUGH EBAY. NO MORE BIDDING PLEASE. I'M SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE, BUT IT IS A NECESSITY. THANK YOU.
